Having grief with the later Lucas rear lights that use the st Lucas bulb holders, having a right game with the stop tail light bulbs and earths.
MOT advisory said brake light not much brighter than tail light, we assumed its the LED bulbs I was using not great quality, now getting simillar effect with normal filament bulbs, total pain in the arse so wonered if anyone had replaces the Lucas bulb holders, bottom picture, with anything more modern with the original Lucas rear light unit? or has anyone replaced it with something modern that dosent look that different?

The bulbholders are crap, give you that.................however wouldn't change the clusters, they look right on an M series, What did help matters a lot on mine was an extra earth wire from the point in the booth to the battery (in my case an earth switch in the central tunnels locker...

Is the light in the photo 3000M or 3000S. Looks the same as my 3000S and the earth is to the fuel tank.

These look better made than the Lucas bulb holders, but not sure if they could easily be attached to the light cluster.

after much grief with mine I worked out that the bit that holds the bulb (and makes the earth) was not attached by anything much to the bit that clips into the lamp assembly ..... no earth!

Bit of nifty soldering and all is now good smile

Most LED bulbs are ste. Buy from a known supplier with a guarantee, ie not China.
I used carmodshop for mine on the Griff and Land Rover and have been fine for the 2/3 years that they've been on the car. Not cheap but good qulaity.
