I am not sure if my 3000m should have a start relay or not. The wiring diagram is for cars after chassis number 3668 which is before my car which is chassis number 3582.
I have looked everywhere except behind the dash and i can't find a start relay anywhere.
Should it have a start relay or just a white wire with red tracer from Ignition Switch to Solenoid.
Sorry to pick your brains again but i'm still on my learning curve with TVR'
Cheers

If that wire is quite thick I'd suggest it is probably feeding the starter solenoid directly.

Can you put a meter across the ends ? Continuity would mean no relay.

It's a thick wire feeding the starter solenoid direct white with red tracer.
There is no relay.
I will replace this wire with another new wire same gauge white with red tracer.
The original wire over the years i think has built up a resistance which is taking all the current when turning the engine over on the starter. None left for the Coil and plugs. The starter is an Edge gear reduction from Burton which was fitted in 2015. All running via standard Solenoid.
Once i have replaced the thick White wire with red tracer i thick i will fit a relay to supply solenoid. Shorter cable run for supply to solenoid = current for Coil and plugs.

If you've got a high torque starter than the white/red wire from the ign switch can be low gauge (11A or less) as there's barely any draw, and you wouldn't need a relay IMO, the solenoid is a relay.

We've got a Wosp starter on our Taimar and I've just wired it straight from the ign switch down to the solenoid on the starter with a 16.5A thinwall cable (way over the top amps wise but it's what I had), cranks over very fast even with a tiny battery.
