When i bought my 3000m it used to misfire after a few miles.
I fitted new Bosch Coil + new points + new condenser + fitted new Gasket to inlet Manifold to Heads.
The cars now runs very well BUT if i stop with hot Engine impossible to restart until Engine is cold again. The Auto Choke shuts off when hot, not stuck on.
Maybe i need to fit a new Float Needle in carb.
Any ideas very welcome
thanks
Alan

One thing i didn't say the car has an Electric Pump so maybe the pressure needs to be lower.
You guys with an Electric Pump are running at what pressure 2 psi or 1.5 psi

Sounds high Alan, I would be starting around 1.5 - 2 PSI, not much more the 3?

I'll try 1.5 bar pressure

Just ordered overhaul kit for the carb + power valve which is not in the kit.
That way i can start from basics with good control of fuel level and no diaphragms leaking.
No flooding.

My car doesn't have a Relay for the Starter Solenoid it is chassis 3582FM and the Relay was introduced from chassis 3668FM onwards. Looking at posts on the forum it seems that resistance can increase in a wire direct from Ignition Switch to Solenoid leaving no power to Coil in starting mode.
I will fit a Relay next to Battery and Starter Solenoid, which means short cable run and no resistance. Also less power through Ignition Switch

Alan, I would try and establish what is 'missing' at a hot start, ie spark or fuel (it's probably a fair assumption that it's not the third part of the holy trinity, compression).
Either pull a plug lead and fit it to a spare plug lying on a metal part of the engine to see if it sparks while cranking, or shoot a puff of ether (eg Quickstart) down its gullet whilst cranking. Probably best to do it in that order too wink

If it does turn out to be a volt drop at the ignition supply - Take a look at this

O.K. when it is hot and won't start i'll get someone else to turn the key to try to start.
While the starter is turning i'll check with multimeter if there are any volts getting to the Coil during cranking.

I tried starting when hot with a spare sparkplug resting on rocker cover. No spark or now and then a very weak red spark but when i released the key engine started.
So the problem is when starter is turning no feed to Coil. The faulty wire is from Solenoid during cranking to output terminal on Ballast connection.
When i first bought the 3000M i removed the Ballast and joined both connections together. I fitted a Bosch 12 volt Coil and cold starting no problem.
I have now added a new wire from the joined Ballast connections direct to Coil feed, touch wood the hot starting is now fixed. I run the engine upto 75°C and now no problem.
Over the w/e i will take the car for my usual 20 mile run along the Brittany coast just to be sure.

To close and to help others.
I have removed the original Solenoid and wired Ignition direct to Edge Starter.
No hot start problems now.
So if you have a pre-engaged like Edge i suggest you wire direct and scrap original Solenoid on bulkhead
