Not a very interesting topic but.............I have just removed a mix of bulbs and holders from all the gauges due to acute dimness.

Is there a modern holder with a decent bulb available?

Some of the bulbs have wires soldered on to them, never seen that before.

You could always modify some new bulb holders so that they will fit, that is if you can't buy the correct parts

Quite happy to modify.

Any idea where I can source parts and which ones are the correct ones?

The bulb holders should be the sprung type they are available for land rovers and motorbikes they work brilliantly with led bulbs if you pardon the pun

Very useful thanks.

I will have a look around. There is a bulb specialist near me.

My electrician states that lamps light up and bulbs grow in the ground!

Good discussion of LED bulbs for Smiths gauges here

Might be useful for later cars too

Went to a local lightbulb specialist a couple of villages away run by some nice Polish guys!

They kitted me out with a full set of LED bulbs and holders for about £14.

They look very even in real life. The camera seems to picked up slightly brighter backgrounds then it actually is in reality.
