The trouble is I only seem to get a moment! With the advent of these wonderful new low energy light bulbs I seem to blow one every time I use my inspection lamp. Has anyone got a recommendation as to what sort of bulb I should use so that it will actually last more than 5 minutes or being moved / gently knocked, etc? I'm getting fed up with working by feel!

What do you mean exactly by low energy? The ones with the halogen capsule inside are pretty fragile. Like said you can still get "heavy duty" filament lamps or led or flourescent low energy lamps should be fine, and better imo as they wont be boiling hot.

Best advice is to ditch your existing and go to a rechargeable LED one, you won't look back.

Good plan! I have ordered one from a "well known on-line shopping website" - and it's cost about the same a 3 light bulbs!!

Available in Home Bargains in 'heavy duty' flavour I think, but they seem to be on the way out even there.

carefull what you buy with the cheaper rechargable stuff... decided the panasonic CFL torch to use my cordless tool batts was a bit of a rip for what it was (£40 for a CFL lightbulb in a fancy plastic case and really could do with another £70 battery to go with..) so got a cheap rechargeable LED floodlight from screwfix... useless thing has a runtime of about 2 hours, a chargetime of 4 hours and wont run off the mains plug as the psu cant deliver enough power... which is next to sodding useless for anything serious, more occasional small jobs piece of DIY carp. In the skip with it and bought the one I should have in the first place.

So yeah get just a plug in one or one with a proper psu/battery.

Spend £20+ on something like this.

I have a couple, use them daily, only charge them once a week and can also confirm that they 'crash well'! laugh

(Other make lamps are available blah blah)
