Hi all,

I've been looking for a classic car on & off for far too long now. At last the stars have aligned & I can go ahead. I really fancy a Taimar (room for our dog in the back, practicality etc.) There doesn't seem to have been many for sale over the last few months. Perhaps it's because they're so good & owners don't like selling them - who knows???
If anyone's thinking of shifting one with a decent chassis I'd love to hear from you.

Cheers

Hi Andy they do come up
It depends on your budget i speak to many who have been looking and they want a car but at prices 5 to 10 years out of date.
The best cars have had £1000s spent on them the worst cars need £1000s spending on them.
There is one for sale here in Kent thats had a full mechanical restoration chassis engine etc and the rest preserved so a nice example
Search Goldmember on here its not advertised at present but he would sell i believe
If its a Bargain your after you may have a very long wait however compared to other marques even the cars at top prices are bargains IMOP

With all that glass in the rear, I fear it would be like putting your dog in a greenhouse?

C'mon TR4man, less negativity please! I needed to play the 'practicality' card to get my wife more onside...

My Dog just loves it in ours same screen different car
I usually drive with the window open anyway and you dont leave your Baby in a Hot car unattended so no issue

Thanks for your insights, Andrew. I tried to email Goldmember but the email address registered to his PH account isn't valid any more.
I'm unlikely to get a total bargain, and can't stretch to £17K for the gorgeously restored one. I'll keep looking - no rush...(until summer).

hi Andy,
good luck in your search. I'm sure you can find one with a good chassis.
Maybe it will need a paint job which you could get done later.

There was one advertised in the back of November's Sprint.

One owner from new if I remember correctly.

Well, thanks again for all your comments, including possible leads. Looks like my classic car budget isn't enough at this stage for a Taimar so I'll rethink what I can get for under £10K.

Cheers,

Andy

Andy,

Don't give up. £10k should get you a Taimar in reasonable condition with a good chassis. But they don't come along very often so you have to wait but then act quickly when one does.

There are a lot of classic TVR's that have come onto the market this year at high asking prices but they rarely sell and if they do it may not be close to the asking price. Possibly they're not really for sale unless someone is willing to pay OTT. Don't let that put you off.

Keep looking and post a few ad's in 'wanted'.

Good luck

Seems to be more 3000Ms than Taimars around for £7-12k, including my own. Could always drop the dog in via the sunroof !

Just to make my search harder, I don't want a sunroof (to leak and make extra noise)! Mind you, I read once that a sunroof was necessary to stop the windscreen leaking when the body flexes due to cabin pressure!

I can only speak from experience of mine but it's never leaked or made any wind noise. The only down side is if you open it after washing the car you can get a few drips onto your head. The up side is fresh air, the cabin doesn't get over hot from the engine heat and it's really nice to have an opening roof.

I know there's a lot of negative views on sunroofs which I've never really understood. I see posts referring to them as Britax tents and saying they ruin the asthetics. I guess it's all personal but for me I'd choose to have one over not have one every time.

100% agree, wouldn't dream of any cramped British sportscar without a webasto, adds so much fun,and esp a TVR M/Taimar with that heat from back window in the summer !

I think maybe more than 80% had webasto or weathershield from new.
They can be filled/laminated over then the roof painted a different colour e.g. red body silver roof very nice. It's like the Vinyl covered roof part of the character or the big stripe /sidewinder along the side.
You could always go for a MGB GT well over priced and lots of them everywhere for mudane Sunday drivingrolleyes
