Gentlemen,

Just wanted to say hi. I'm expecting delivery of my recently purchased '69 Vixen tomorrow.

Not new to British sports cars at all, but am new to the TVR fold but they've always been a bucket list car for me.

Anyhow, I'm really looking forward to it and will be interested to see how it stacks up to other sports cars I've owned. Oh, and it will be kept company by my '74 TR6 so we'll see which one gets more wheel time next spring!

Cheers,
Aaron

Welcome to Vixen ownership. Admittedly I'm biased but I think you will prefer the driving experience of the Vixen to the TR6 so I'm thinking the Vixen will win.

Don't forget to put some pictures of the Vixen up for us to see after it arrives.

Welcome Aaron. Never been in a TR6 so I'll be interested to see how they compare.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm definitely stoked for its arrival!

Probably the closest thing I've owned to it would be the '06 Elise which I've recently sold to make room for more vintage beasties!

Welcome to TVR ownership!
What part of the US do you live in?

I'm in Cincinnati Ohio.

Interestingly enough, the car had been up in Syosset New York for many years which, coincidentally, is where Jack Griffith had his Ford dealership and in turn, created the beast we all know as the TVR Griffith :-)

So you got the blue one. I have never seen the car in person but it looks very nice from the pictures (ditch that hand brake handle fast!)
Good luck with it.

Indeed I did. And indeed, I'll be ditching the handbrake handle ASAP!

Already spoke to Bill Rachal at Dominion about sourcing a replacement.

By the way, maybe somebody here might be able to help but I also want to return the interior rear view mirror to its proper position on top of the dashboard. I asked Bill if he happened to have a new old stock item lying around but he didn't so if you or anybody else who reads this knows where I might obtain the correct piece, please let me know!

What is the aluminum tank on the firewall (tall cylinder). looks like a catch can of some sort but I cannot see what it is connected to?
By the way a lot of people were bummed out that auction ended early. I was thinking of bidding as well. Good for you that you got it.

Yeah, I know. I got lit up on BaT over it but whatever. As far as I'm concerned, it was anyone's game and I just happened to catch the guy as soon as that car went live. I made him an offer he couldn't refuse and he was happy to end it early and it was a very easy transaction for both of us. He was a very nice guy to deal with and he was happy that I made it a no BS deal which is always the preferred scenario on both ends wink

So now you know where it lives wink

Haven't had a chance to inspect things yet so I can't answer your question about the catch can but I suspect you're correct.

Pics to come shortly!!

Have owned a TR6 - the Vixen is much more nimble. If your TR6 is US spec there wont be a massive difference in acceleration either...

Coming out of the trailer! How the heck do I upload more than one photo to a post from my iPhone?

So I took it out for a blast. Runs beautifully, lit right off when I backed it out of the trailer, idles well, pulls strong, gearbox, clutch and brakes all seem to work well. Gearshift has a LOT of slop in the linkage so I need to investigate that and the water temp gauge doesn't seem to work (always buried to the right, even with a cold engine) but a quick flash with my infrared thermometer confirmed it's not overheating even after it has warmed to full operating temp.

Didn't get a chance to pop the bonnet as I had to get back to work but I will definitely be doing some more investigating around the car later and will report back with any findings/questions
