Having agonised over this decision for some time I have finally admitted to myself that my Vixen needs a new owner. I would rather not sell it to a Dealer or investor but to a TVR (classic) enthusiast. Can I ask all on here where would be the best place to advertise it? I'm not keen on ebay and auctions are out of the question .I'm a lapsed TVR club member and have few old copies of Sprint which I thought might be OK or maybe PH. Never been able to post an image on PH but Neil R knows the car, he's always been my saviour.I'd welcome views but be gentle with me, I already feel like a traitor.

There is a Buy and Sell anything TVR group on Facebook. There is also likely to be a Facebook group for the Vixen too.

Pop along to the local TVRCC regional meets - you don't have to be a member - and spread the word.

Ebay is a great market place and you are free to sell the car to who you deem suitable. The plus side is that people see the add and post up in the forums about them.

Classified ad on PH would reach the right market along with one on CarandClassic.

Don't do it Rob.
But if you do then remember..Your car has a brand new chassis under it so it should be priced accordingly…

Your car is a £25k plus car. easy peasy. if it was my car the sticker would be reading £30k

Hi Neil, Thanks for posting the pics and thanks also for your valuation. If I were twenty years younger there's no way I would let it go but time has taken it's toll and I feel the Vixen needs a younger driver. I don't do face book or any of the other 'ones' (sorry, don't no what word to use) I do get the ebay suggestion and that the car would reach various forums so something to think about.

Rob, As you're not into the web in a big way, I'd advertise here on PH and Car & Classic site. You won't be missing many potential buyers and you should mainly get telephone calls from interested parties, rather than having to follow & continuealy post to sites like facebook.

Good luck = looks a well sorted car.

I would be very reluctant Rob..In another 5 years who knows what your car will be valued at. Not the reason you restored it I know but you have put so much into it.
I have put some pics up on a few Facebook pages. I dare say the jungle drums will now be beating ;-)

Looks like a really lovely car, it'll sell wherever you advertise it - actually I think it'll sell even if you don't advertise it!!!
Sad that you've decided to sell though, I hope you have lots of happy memories.

Hi Rob sorry your selling but i am sure it will make someone very happy Neil is probably spot on with the valuation and saves someone the cost of an expensive re build as projects run at 5k to 10k and restoration costs 10k to 25k depending on how much you do yourself.
If you need help putting it on PH Classified i an sure others will help avoid E Bay but Cars and Classics will also give you a wider audience but attract the dealers but you can always tell them where to go.
Avoid Auctions as it may get a high price but not to you after fees

Many thanks Neil and you other guys for your kind words. I'm going to put the Vixen on PH sometime tomorrow and see what happens. I was shocked at the valuation. I thought it was worth considerable less, perhaps 14 or 15k if I was lucky. I'm clearly out of touch. I'll use your lower estimate in the advert and if it sells I'll send a nice bottle of something up to you.

Don't be in a hurry to sell Rob. These aren't exactly depreciating assets.
It will go quite quickly at the lower figure I reckon.

There were some nice pics on piston heads the other day of it in a previous life long long ago.
I found the car in Northolt from memory.

Hello,

Nice reaction on Rob's nice Vixen by many PH members.
And good advice on Total costs of the rebuild which are a base for the selling price.
But in the end the market will tell what is realistic.

My car is also an ground up rebuild / restoration with lots of new parts.
It's for sale in line with the prices as mentioned in this topic.

But not sold as another 3 examples on the internet.

Any good advice?

Hans

Pic of the chassis under Robs car. So glad he has decided to keep hold..

I agree that the market is generally a leveller….However some cars are built to a much higher standard which sets them above the market price.
I consider robs car a bit different to many that turn up for sale… the pics above demonstrate why.

It'll sell for what it's worth at auction. Anything is worth what somebody is willing to pay, not how much a seller may want for it.

Something is also worth what they themselves value it at!!

You wouldn't be able to own my car. its worth too much (To me)

Auctions only highlight value when the right people are in the room!

Well that's what I meant Andy.
But I hoped that what is told in this topic became the truth for me.

So have to wait for the right person.

So Glad that your keeping her at least for another year it might give someone some time to save there pennies or sell another car and get themselves ready for when you decide to pass on your baby.

As for why some cars dont sell its hard to say usually cars that are know in TVR Circles and have proven reliability or Provenance sell quick.
A car that has been re built to sell creates problems for some where a car built to enjoy and use and is seen out and reliable will always have a new home waiting for her often before she is ever put up for sale.

The Recent V6 Tuscan a perfect example although priced far to low ar 25K so someone has got themselves a Bargain.

No Disrespect Hans when you re build a car intending to sell you build to a budget every penny spent is a penny out of profit.
I speak from experience as my Tuscan was a perfect example and the reason why when i bought it i did so knowing i was going to take a lot of the car apart and start again.

Yes that Tuscan was a bargain. The yellow Vixen is a cracking car but needs to be used - a year under wraps is probably OK but these cars need using to avoid the condition going downhill.

Very True a restored car thats not been used can hide all sorts of issues.
A monkey can re build an engine that does not go pop for 1000 Miles.
A friends Car bought at auction in the last couple of years is an example of that after it went Bang and whats there is not even worth rebuilding so a 711 block re built engine is on its way as the one in her was not a 711 block and a big bill.

Tested to all conditions from long runs to hot days as issues may not arise until you do.
Driving in all conditions from Rain to Night driving in the rain will once again show up other issues with electrics that light use wont show up plus internal leaks.

Paintwork can look great when freshly done and done well will last for years.
However a few years on a cheap paint job and it shows.

I guess thats one of the reasons i would avoid a fresh restoration unless built by a professional unless its been used and enjoyed for a few years and probably why some cars that where restored 10 years ago used enjoyed and reliable sell for good money and then sellers think that a fresh restoration should get more it does not always seem to be the case.
