Has anyone got any ideas/photos for attaching tow hooks front and rear? I need to fit tow hooks to my Taimar to allow me to compete in upcoming sprint and hillclimb series in Western Australia - can't use straps as the shortest I can find is 250 mm long and would drag on the road if mounted on the bottom chassis rail. Would be really interested to see how anyone else has done it.

I'm using straps fitted to new sleeve inserts into the chassis of the S3C. I've also added a hook to hold the strap up. Doing this enabled me to move the towing eye forward from the hoops in the chassis thus relieving the potential damage from a strap / rope onto the clamshell. Repeated it at the rear.

That sounds like it would work - you haven't got a photo have you?

No, sorry. Car is in bits and I'm laid up with a bad back. Not sure of the Taimar's chassis but I used one of the front cross members. Welded in a threaded 'top hat' sleeve in the centre line of the car.

No problem - thanks for your help, I think I can use the straps and hook them up so they don't drag. My first event is the Goomalling Flyer and then we've got a couple of "round the houses" events next year held on closed public roads so should be fun.

I use tow straps from TRS, similar to seat belt material

Both are attached to the chassis using a simple buckle similar to belt adjusters. In order to stop them dropping to the ground I use about 6 inches of heavy duty velcro which is stuck and pop-rivetted to the body and sewn onto the strap. I then have a tie wrap loop through two small holes, just in case, which would break if the tow strap was used. 5 years on a Grantura and a Marcos without any problem

If that's not clear I can take a photo of the rather dirty front one attached to the ARB of the wooden Marcos 1800

Velcro's a good idea - I've managed to fit the straps, bolted nicely to the chassis but still hanging a bit low so have hooked them up using velcro cable ties, hopefully should be be ok. I'll try and post a few pictures of the Goomalling event - anyone else competing in historics in WA at the moment?
