The title says it all. I have just discovered a leak on the wide low rad under the spare wheeleek.
Big question recore old or change for central Rad. Difference costs wise and advantages.
I prefer to keep as original and imho i don't see that alloy Rads are better. Alloy Rads are difficult to repair if needed.
Thanks for ideas
Alan

Good question Alan. Can I extend it to include Vixen rad also. I also have the same view on keeping it original unless big reason not to.

Thx Moto

PS sorry Alan for hijacking your thread. wink

Someone told me the upright Rad in the middle is from a Ford Capri.
Can someone confirm and if so which Ford Capri model

When I took my 3000S rad to be re-cored a few months ago the guy said as soon as I arrived and hadn't said anything "That's a MK2 Capri radiator, I haven't seen one of those for a long time" and when I asked him which engine size he said they were all the same.

Re Core most defiantly i had mine done locally as i have a Rad guy close buy been very happy with it since while your at it have brackets fitted to fit the fans behind the Rad if you dont already have them fitted not that it makes a massive difference but its certainly neater

Got to say I would go with the ally unit. Not saying a recore is wrong, just had some very poor outcomes going down that route in the past..

Recore at a good specialist.

When I had mine done the guy told me I'd done a smart thing reinforcing it. I hadn't deliberately but had alloy struts between the top plates to mount the fans. With it being long and low he said any bending can pop the joins on the end tanks.

Make sure it's not rigidly minute for same reason

And if it hasn't already got one a 22mm boss for an otter switch gives most options.

I will visit a specialist and i also reinforce which will be supports for twin fans.
The weakness on the original rads are the sheet metal panel top and bottom in mild steel which rusts.
I prefer to keep as original with wide low rad under spare wheel.
