Hello all,

After a number of years browsing I finally added to my TVR collection (well, when I say collection I mean my Cerbera...) picked up this little beauty today.

A few little niggles to sort, as ever, but first impressions are good despite it becoming increasingly difficult to get into gear as the drive back to central London progressed. The last 5 miles being stuck in 2nd gear...maybe hydraulics or the clutch on it's last legs - is there an easy adjuster on these, or a good place to start my poking around and investigating? It kept ok(ish) temperature, but the weather wasn't too hot and there wasn't much traffic - the electric fan is puny - is there a 'standard' upgrade Vixen folk do?

Happy Tivvering!

Congratulations great looking Vixen. Mine's a 1600 and has the fan on the engine and I've never had any overheating. If the rad is old it may be in need of a new core. Clutch could be master or slave leaking, also check there isn't a plastic clutch pipe as I had one on a Dolomite years ago and I had the same problems when the engine was hot as the pipe softened and expanded when the clutch pedle was depressed. Enjoy.

Fantastic and a Great buy well done
Yet another later TVR Owner buying a early car we really should keep it more secret as to how great these cars are
There are a good number of early cars around in the Kent surrey and surrounding areas so get involved and there will be plenty of people out there to help i know i find them all a great help when i am stuck

Your trip home reminds me of mine when I collected my Vixen. I ended up broken down in the fast lane of the M25 with virtually solid (but moving!) traffic. Turned out the mixture screw on the carburetor had been tightened right down for some strange reason. Good luck with your new acquisition!

Nice one! And a good looking car in a great colour. Chances are it's the slave if it faded gradually if it was the clutch it would just slip.

Always had a love for the older TVRs, it's about 20 years ago since I bought my first one - an amazing 3000M - loved that car!

Parked in the University car park a 'freak' accident with a drunken digger driver crushed the back windscreen - that was some sight to come back to after work looking forward to the drive home...

All got fixed up nicely and then I ended up selling when I moved to London, and that was about 18 years ago now so it's good to be back in an old 70's Tivver!

Andrew - thanks for the PM - can't make it this weekend though unfortunately, looks like it would be a good one.

Cheers

Congrats Joe.

That's a fantastic looking car. I love cars that are original with a patina showing their life history from new. There are very few left like this. Please don't modify it if you can help it.

A shame you can't be there on Sunday, I would love to see it.

Enjoy...

PS - What was the winning bid?

Thanks for the messages and advice - I just hopped in and depressed the pedal once and it won't go into gear. However, if I pump the pedal it goes in ok (well, with a bit of a shove), so I'm guessing slave cylinder as a starting point for replacement. From back in my Triumph days I'm presuming Moss is a good place to go, or Rimmer Bros? and am I looking for a TR6 type? anything more specific? it's a non-overdrive standard 4 speed as far as I know.

Moto - it's a long story....I was outbid but essentially it didn't meet it's reserve. I was contacted afterwards and 'persuaded' that I should buy it...didn't take much persuading and all in with fees etc it owes me just over 12k, which I'm pretty happy with. Now to fix those niggles, I won't be tarting up though! Like you I like cars in their 'used' state, I once had an old Davrian resprayed and it was pristine - never dared drive it after that.

Cheers

I dont think you should be happy with just over 12k you should be ecstatic the last 2500 that sold at auction was double that yes maybe a bit fresher with engine mods by someone who knew what they where doing but hey thats fantastic.
As for Sunday a real shame but i am sure Dumper Trucks permitting wink ouch you will get to some events locally soon

pretty happy yes! wink I know the one you mean - the navy one with the rather special registration, I meant to bid on that (another long story). I liked the sound of the engine mods (who did them out of interest?) - but with hindsight it might have been a bit tidy for me...!

It looked better in the pictures that it did in the flesh a well respected TVRCC Member did the upgrades a number of years ago so not as fresh as the advert made out and the Mileage was way higher than disclosed but still a nice car.
Needed shocks etc and some paint work in places seeing to but regardless of that whoever bought her will get lots of Fun you take your choice and pay the price and the Choice was spot on as they are fantastic cars

£12k. That is an amazing bargain. I thought it would have fetched double the guide price - just shows that you can still grab a bargain every so often.

Mine turned over 100k miles this week so it's brand new again showing just 50 odd miles on the clock now. I've done over 350 miles in it so far this week, so by after the trip to Gaydon it'll be over 500 miles this week. That's a lot of smiling biggrin
