Wonder if someone with a standard 3000m or Taimar chassis would be able to give me any dimensions or measurements of where the upper and lower wishbones attach to the chassis?

I have a setup with no caster as the uprights are completely upright, suspect the previous owner of my abandoned project modified the pickup points and neglected to give me any information.

Actual thinking about it, more specifically its the lower wishbone mounting tabs, if someone knows what their positioning from the front of the chassis should be, how far they extend outwards from the chassis rails and the radial angle of the tab holes centers above/below the chassis center line.

I know its a big ask, but my race car project is essentially scuppered unless I can get hold of some info.

Hi Eric,

Chassis from 1979 3000M between coats of paint just happens to be sat on my garage floor. If you send me a sketch of what dimensions you require I will happily measure them for you.

Interesting problem Erich. Can you see any evidence that the pickups have been moved? On the Vixen chassis the only practical way to do this is to cut the old ones off and weld new ones on in the new position.

On a more practical point, why would you want to remove the caster (suspension experts) is this some sort of racing mod?

It looks like the upper ones may be new, I don't think the castor was intentionally removed, the previous owner had something in mind as he was going to run it with an AJP8 engine and modified suspension, but he never completed the suspension work and neglected to tell me what he had done.

Talking about caster angle, is this what helps steering to centralise after taking a bend.

yes, think of forks on a bike, as they are set at a slightly rearwards tilt allows wheel to self center.

Good news,news of my castor angle crisis has reached one of the experts who suggested checking if upper wishbones and/or trunions are on the correct side as both are handed. My setup guy has reported this was the problem and he's now seeing 3 degrees castor each side.
