on the 3000M i have just bought the insulaters on the spark plugs have been wrapped in silver heat insulating tape. I have never seen this before on an engine and wonder what the reason is.
I do know when the engine is hot it starts misfiring so i have ordered a new ht coil.
I'm starting to think it could be the spark plugs overheating due to the tape around them.
What do you think

The tape that's been applied is an attempt to reduce heat,
You can buy a similar thing called socks which are purpose built to go around your plug lead ends to reduce the risk of the leads shorting out on the exhaust manifold.
Protection against heat is the idea but tape won't help much!

Here's a pic of my V8 using socks supplied by Powers Performance.
I've removed the plug extenders (metal) in favour of just using the socks over rubber plug caps and I've had no misfires to date 10,000 miles + smile

You can just see the socks in the bottom left of this picture.
