Hi Gentlemen,

Anyone familiar with

item number # 44 Draught Excluder Part # 10452 (Piece of rubber moulding fits in between or on the end of one the two sliding windows, but from what or custom piece?) Can these still be sourced?
Thank you.

I found some replacements via Mini Mainia, these are a replacement seal that work very similar

http://www.minimania.com/part/EAM8530-1/Draft-Excl...

I will see how well they work when they arrive.

Hi Alan, yes I am virtually rebuilding my entire frames and bases. I purchased all new window latches, new slide base, curtain to door latches, rubber/cloth frame lining, base rubber seals, and finally the draught excluder. I have had problems with my side curtain frames fitting properly, and it seems the drivers side in particular suffered a major damage at one point, once the chrome was removed the extent of the repair became known. They have been modified enough to warrant replacement. So, I am hoping Rudy will make me a new LH and RH set of bases and frames, hopefully in stainless. It will be nice to have working side curtains, that are complete and not some garage jumble sale rebuild.

For a yet to be agreed upon fee, I can go to his place and 'persuade' him ? (you know, call him names, hit him with something heavy ?.....) biggrin

Rudy is a top bloke, but very busy ! (making money to buy TVRs !)

Yes, Frank being in the Chicago area, we have a colorful history of infamous guys who operate like that, but if you hit him with something heavy, he might not be able to fabricate side curtain frames and bases. Better to dangle the carrot rather than use the stick. But, I appreciate the offer. Rudy is an genuine artist.

Don't Worry mate I was with Rudy on Sunday and had a chat regards your side screens I think it will mean supplying them in steel rather than stainless and the skirts oversize so you can trim back and adjust at the car and make any necessary adjustments before having them chromed.
It would be nice if one size fitted all but sadly that is not the case.
At some point I will post a picture of a change that may be worth doing to the screen gutter that greatly reduces rain coming into the car at that point.
The so called gutters are not able to cope with more than a sprinkling of water anything heavier and the water goes over the side and into the car.
This change diverts the water away from the screen and stops the leak where the side screen goes up to the screen.

Thank you Andrew. I look forward to your photos and modifications to the gutter. Anything that helps keep more water on the exterior side of the car is welcome.

As Promised
3000s Windscreen gutter replacement
The original does not really do the job of a gutter as its to small and water goes round and then straight down the side screen and into the car.
And any water it does divert takes it up the gutter and in at the top corner as well.

Here are some pictures of mine basically it replaces the gutter with this stainless piece this is attached at the back and is angled in such a way that it protrudes enough to divert the water from the screen away from the gap between the side screen and the windscreen but at a point that it does not foul the side screen when the door is opened.

Hope this is a help I know Rudy has still to make his for his car so maybe if asked nicely and a few exchange tokens sent he could make a few for others at the same time.

I do still get a small leak in heavy rain in the two top corners but a duster stuffed in the corners on a long run in heavy rain seems to prevent the wet carpet scenario.

Hi Andrew, Thank you for the pictures. I just purchased a set of OE gutters, as my car did not come with them. Any advice as to best install using the OE gutters to minimize water coming around the unit?

Hi Alan
Have you taken the lower trim off the windscreen to inspect the condition of the windscreen Frame since you had the car?

Andrew and Alan, I was just noticing the direction of the lip of the gutter, on Alan's car it seems edge of the gutter is facing forward to catch water. As where Andrew's gutter has the edge facing towards the curtain window. Andrew's edge seems to go further back than the OEM unit, seems to get the water past the edge of the curtain frame. Alan's would seem to allow the water the move on the outside of the outer gutter edge and the water moves behind the gutter to the curtain frame and seal? Does this sound correct?

Yes John Spot on
If you read my post again it explains why I have this non OE Deflector Rather than a gutter if I was wanting the car to be close or totally OE and only use on sunny days I would probably want to have the OE fitted however I do use the car and have done about 10 000 miles since I bought her and a fair number of these in very heavy rain and although I do get a small amount of water coming in its certainly no more than I would expect and certainly nothing like the amount mentioned in Road tests when the car was released however as Adrian has said elsewhere the early examples had none fitted so in a way OE for those cars is none at all wink what I have fitted is not exactly rocket science to make any fabricating workshop would make a couple in a few min from some stainless off cuts and bend on there finger press.
Try Both and see what works for you at least you have the OE ones if at any point you want it totally OE
