Having had to unfortunate experience late last summer of my bonnet striker pin stripping out of the bracket and my bonnet coming unlatched at about 90 mph, being able to slow down, but not quite stopped, when the bonnet scrapped the pavement at about 3 to 4 mph, and then having to have it repaired. I have replaced the bonnet striker pins thanks to Adrian, but I have also fabricated some very low budget quick release (spring loaded pull latch) bonnet catch safety cables (10 gauge wire), just in case something similar happens again. Cheap insurance for sure.

I would not recommend using electric cable, as it has no tensile strength. Better off to use small braded cable.

Gentlemen, thank you, I will heed your advice. Andrew, your unit looks more substantial, and thank you for the large photo. I like the way you have secured the quick release pin on the thimble bracket.

A couple of marine clevis cable ties with quick release pins and some shrink tubing to minimize noise and rattles. Much more substantial. Thank you gentlemen.

Unfortunately, I had to increase the budget slightly, but a much better product, and actually easier to make than the first attempt. So Slightly Larger Budget Quick Release Bonnet Safety Catch.
