We it rather depends whether you want to conform with the rules or have something that might save life or limb. If the former go with SD, if not AR, Caged etcBest regards,
Bernard
If you can't, feel free to PM me.
Best regards,
Bernard.

However the latest bespoke race cages are effectively safety cells and built to protect the occupant rather than just adhere to an FIA specification and there is a vast difference. For example the way in which they attach to the chassis (or not). In a fibreglass car you want something that stays in place and holds the seat in place in a roll situation. If it punches through the fibreglass or breaks away from the chassis, you are not likely to survive. Equally if the seat breaks away the harnesses are unlikely to hold your mass in place. Its not so bad in a TVR as in an Elan for example, but I would no longer race a car with an old style cage. Hence my recommendation of Andy Robinson.

Thanks, for that clarification. Now, I understand what you meant. Yes, cage designs, as well as construction methods and practices have been steadily improving, on many fronts. If companies do not change, their product offering is left behind.
I follow this thread, when I want to be reminded, how people create a relatively safe environment.

I have to admit, that I can't imagine building in all of the features, that are often advocated. A protective structure, around the driver's feet, for instance, that is tied in, both, with the chassis, and cage, might be difficult to accomplish, with our small(ish) cars. Similarly, having a halo structure would be great, but I have a rough time imagining how to compensate for the resulting reduction of helmet space (except for lowering the floor). Even the halo's front supports, I suspect, when coupled with door aperture protection, would make in/egress something of an acrobatic feat. I'm only thinking about an M. In the prior, short-door version, some of those features must be nigh-on impossible.
Please share your thoughts, or even better, pictures.
Best regards,
Bernard.
