Is there a correct color for frames? I'm in the planning stages for pulling the body off my 1973 2500 M and want to repair and repaint the frame. Thankfully only a small bit of rot on an outrigger and want to put the spare tire mount back in as previous owner 'upgraded' the car by chopping that out.

As far as I know they were all black.

Black.
But personally 7024 Gloss grey always looks good as a frame colour and if you get any corrosion or cracking it shows up better.

Black, I think, but of course the answer is any colour you like!

I'd use black top coat but a different colour beneath to show up any damage or missed patches when painting.

I wouldn't use red oxide. Its rust inhibiting properties are rather poor. If you are hand/spray painting the chassis there are several very good epoxy mastics available now. Alternatively you could try POR15. I have used it on pickled rusty metal, i.e. rusty metal that has been treated with acid to derust it, leaving a pocked, etched surface. It comes in several colours and painting grey first and then black helps you see which bits you've missed.
