Interesting diagnosis Dr Gray. They can't have heard the scraping above the noise from the non-existent exhaust. Doesn't look crap to me though it looks like a beast in waiting!

Well I have seen the same issue on another car raced at Goodwood by a regular poster on here not in his TVR but another car but in one race there was enough rubbing to wear a hole through just like that one

In fairness despite Johns valuable contribution if you look closely at the pictures the car is actually full of many if not all the hard to find pieces that can be both a nightmare or even impossible to find and apart from the bonnet modification fairly OE and would make a great project for someone.
Makes the description from the seller seem very plausible on this occasion.

I'll live with my contribution. You carry on trying to pump up the value of what ever you think it is Andrew..

It will depend on if Johns Buying or Selling Clive wink its worth whatever someone will pay and sadly for those wanting a nice project they seem to be selling for much more than justified to allow a quality restoration and stay within the end value fully restored however TVRs don't have a Monopoly on that many marques are the same from basket case e types and Astons as an example

As they say you can buy perfection at any time but never originality which once gone is gone forever.

Poetic eh?

Its Funny.
I have been building cars for the best part of 25 years now and generally the cost of building a car hasn't really changed that much…
What has changed is the base cost of buying the car in the first place. This generally is because there are more people out there in this parasitic world where people seem to want something for nothing and aren't really prepared to put the effort in. in the last 10 or so years this seems to have affected the TVR world more and more…it seems now that to build a TVR you have to first pay an inordinate or is that exhorbitant amount for the car first because the person who has dragged it out of the hedge feels his half hour or so's work must be worth Thousands!!

Personally Its a nice car as a project BUT. To build a proper griffith will take a couple of years,(lots more in my case), thousands of man hours and about £35 - £45k money…Plus your purchase price….That then becomes the Value and another car brand eludes the working class enthusiast that the car was originally marketed toward…The car then becomes too valuable to use and less and less get seen being used….

Now personally I couldn't give a stuff what they are worth…When I bought mine they weren't silly money…What I do get annoyed about is someone adding $30k to scrap value on the back of the enthusiast who is enhancing the car!!

These cars are upended tower cranes. Nothing cannot be made cheaply for them. They are as far from exotica as can be bought..People seem to forget that they were originally made in a couple of sheds in Blackpool

What do I think its worth…Not much. its just a good thing for some that there are always stupid people out there prepared to pay more to make someone wealthy in return for doing fk-all!!

Agree, I've witnessed it with different marquees (if you can call WW2 and A7 stuff that) where values rise and gradually exclude the enthusiast, encourage hoarding and make people less open about what they have and reluctant to sell in the hope they make more in a year. Some with cars already become smug but won't ever sell so don't realise their asset to be smug about.
All in all high prices are bad.
It's all about enthusiasts for me.
The thing is it's always been like it, it's a continuum and we are at a certain stage of it with Astons and Healeys behind and who knows what in front - Golfs, MX5's, Smart Cars?

I agree with a lot of what you say Neil However the cost of a new V8 TVR in the late 60s was not a cheap car and certainly not something you would have seen the average Coal Miner Post Man Milk Man or even Bobby being able to afford so your image of the cars being built for the average working Class man or woman of the 60s is an image that certainly was not there when I was born.
To be fair the average working class man in the 60s could not afford a brand new car certainly a family man with mortgage and kids to pay for.
My Father in law could never afford to run a car on a postmans wage they always rented one for holidays etc maybe every other year.
Morgans where built in a shed along with lots of other cars nothing wrong with a car built in a shed most early F1 cars where put together in a shed.

However regards project cars the prices are stupidly high however if they where really low would they attract the restorer the Modifier or just someone who wants to get it running and thrash the guts out of it until its scrap.

Rather you didn't tar me with the same brush as yourself Andrew with regards to values.

It will for sell what someone with the Cash is prepared to pay, but it's a chassis plate. No bits on that car can not be replicated or bought, you've proven that with your V6 Tuscan that is trying to be something it's not and be faithful to an original spec car..

What would I pay, doesn't matter does it.

Don't worry John when it come to Paint and Brush we are miles apart my posts try to be positive rather than negative for a start.
I will give you 30k for your Sagaris if its still for sale as that's all its worth to a working class lad like me wink probably needs re commissioned due to lack of use maybe I am over paying wink
Or 15K for your M series 1600 V8 which you are getting someone else to build or 20k for you concourse Race car not to sure how you get a concourse race car as Concourse means as it came out of the Factory but wont argue with YOUR description as your the expert on that one.

I should imagine the Griffith will sell for a similar price as the white one from the same seller which was about £32k. How did he get two in a month ?? Presumably in USA they are (rightly) considered Griffiths rather than TVR's so maybe argued as not mainstream by dealers when buying?

The collective noun for these people may be "enthusiasts".....

everyone will have their own motivations for buying old sports cars

the last of these is what our cars were made for.....
