Well the mrs has given the go ahead for me to buy a new rad.
Also found mine to be leaking again. It's been repaired a few times now so come to end of life.
Will sell the old one as spare or template only. It's possibly the lack of use that's making it leak but I don't know.
Anyway, new one wanted, where to look? Recommendations, mods etc? I want a good one, anyone had a oil cooler fitted to the rad?
1971 2500 vixen.
Regards.

You are best to fit two separate radiators. I would fit an alloy rad with an electric cooling fan/shroud.
Best,
D.

You may well speak to Andy at Brise Fabrications a great company to work with he is currently building a slightly Modified one to include what D suggested for a V6 Tuscan using the old one as a template you could ask him to make a second or send yours down to make a copy
Quality is very Good

Yes, having one made at the moment, probably picking it up on Tuesday. Happy to leave my old one with him if you wanted him to make another one.
If l'd known perhaps we could have negotiated a bulk discount! Not cheap but hopefully good.

PM me if you want any more info.

I'm making a few enquirers to a few different places now.
Thermostat, do people go back to putting it back in the rad like original or leave it in the engine where the pump is?
One big electric fan or two smaller ones, cowl or no cowl.
Any ideas on making it better than original?
Regards,
Stevo.

You need t keep the thermostat in place. Have a thermo switch put into the radiator to bring the fan on. Fit an over ride switch and relay to the single fan with shroud. Do not cut corners and you will be happy for years to come.
Best,
D.

If you mount the fan as close as possible to the radiator core and fit one that covers as much area as possible then there's little need for a cowl. The idea is to ensure as much of the air into the fan passes through the radiator rather than "avoiding it".
I have never had cooling issues - Essex V6 rather than T2500 - and the standand size rad seems to cope fine.
As David says, fan switch in the rad with over-ride on the dash and thermostat where Thriumph intended! One can get different switches to alter temp fan cuts in and out so one can tune this to suit.
