Good afternoon everyone

I just wanted to introduce myself as a newbie to the PH Forums and also the new owner of Steve Reid's part-completed 3000S.

This is all very new to me, so I'm afraid that I will initially be contributing very little to the Forum, other than asking a lot of pretty basic questions. Having said that, I was able to answer my daughter when she asked "has your new car got ISOFIX?".

I think she was winding me up.

The car is going to be completed on my behalf by Classic World Racing (incorporating David Gerald Sportscars), but I'm sure that there will be plenty of informed choices that I will need make along the way......

Cheers

Cliff

I find most TVRs a bit garish, but that is an absolute stunner! Needs a ton more pics though.
Congrats bow

I assume you knew the correct answer to your daughter's question is "No, it doesn't have Isofix". However if you have 4 point harnesses fitted a child seat will fit very snugly which is why my 5 year old and I will be heading over to Goodwood tomorrow for the Breakfast Club, it's Vee Power Sunday and we have an acceptance for our 3000S turbo. Kids young and old love them, hope to see some more early TVRs there.
Congratulations on your purchase, looking forward to seeing it and meeting you.

Oliver.

Congrats on your purchase !

Knowing 95% is done, what, apart from the roof, needs doing ?

Now, them 95% have been done to a very high stanadard, I suspect....

Hi again guys and thank you for the very warm welcome.

Just to answer a few points that you raised.

Bernard, yes this is my first TVR and also my first foray into 'classic cars'. I have friends who have both though, so have some idea of what I'm letting myself in for...

zygalski, I will get some more photos next time I 'visit'!

Oliver, a genuinely interesting comment about child seats thank you. I've curently got five grandchildren (6 months - 12 years), so it is a hot topic for me! Hope you have a good day at Goodwood.

bluezeeland, well I guess it is 95% complete - if you measure it by weight.

As some of you probably know, Steve did a massive amount of work on the car and in principle the chassis, mechanicals and electrics are all fully sorted. This was some time ago however and included many modifications. The updated car has yet to turn a wheel under its own power and so the first job will be to get the car re-commissioned and driveable.

The car also had a body-off respray in the Porsche Iris Blue that you can see. Whilst it looks great in the photos, in reality, time has taken its toll and there are patches of fine bubbles on most panels. From the little that I've gleaned so far about GRP paint jobs this is probably not good news. Fortunately, I am in any case planning to change the body colour back to a period tone, probably the original black (I know, that rich blue looks sooo much nicer!).

Beyond this, the cabin needs needs a complete re-fit (back to original black again probably), and the wheels need a refurb. The windscreen frame looks good so far, but the screen itself is de-laminating. A new roof needed too, thanks to a hungry field mouse.

It's all part of the fun.

Cheers

Congratulations on your new car, I hope you complete it into the ulimate tourer Steve intended.
I did some chassis work on it for Steve around 94/95, the outer londitudinal outrigger tubes are stainless steel.

Did he ever get the power steering sorted or is it on a standard rack?

Thanks Adrian - I'd love to make an A.R.S.E of myself.

GAjon, nice to know of your involvement with the car. I knew the sill tubes had been replaced, but I had no idea that they were stainless (I normally only take a magnet with me when viewing steel-bodied cars!). Steering is still unassisted - I didn't know that Steve had been considering power assistance..

Cheers

Cliff

Goes to show pictures of cars are not always depicting the actual state

It does look very good in the pictures, tho...

Mine is the exact same blue, and yes, it does look very good ! (see my profile)

In any case good luck in the re-commission and have a lot of fun !

Yes, a great morning was had at Goodwood by me and the lad. This photo of him was taken 3 years ago, and shows him quite happy in it though how he can sleep with that racket going on is anyone's guess! As a black 3000S surely it should have a tan interior?

Hi Cliff

Looking forward to seeing the car progress as others have said its in the Right place and I am sure Trim Unique will do it proud once it goes there if you decide to use Lee.

Here are a few pictures to give you some thing to look forward to and the best fitting hood I have seen on a 3000s for a while and the owner actually made the frame himself from scratch stunning work.
Also a Black interior and a stunning restoration with some interesting deviations from OE but done to a level not often seen

Thanks for your good wishes Frank smile

Oliver, what a fantastic photograph from Goodwood - I feel a change of screensaver coming on! When I first learnt that my car had originally been black I assumed a tan interior too. However, when it last changed hands (early 90s), it apparantly had a black interior, which I'm assuming was original. Either way, having been nudged in this direction by the car's history, I'm now getting quite enthusiastic about having a monotone S!

Andrew, great photographs too of a fantistically finished car. I'm not sure though whether they are inspirational or actually quite daunting!

Hans, I hope that you get your 3000S soon.

Cheers

Andrew, does the black 3000S in the USA belong to Irv Bennett? It certainly looks like his, though he may have sold it. Somewhere I have a photo of it from 2002, the only 3000S I have ever seen look right with a hardtop.

Another shot of mine from the weekend, spreading the love for black 3000Ss.

So good I sticks to the road like glue, even at 90degrees!

Bugger, not sure why it did that when the original was in portrait format...
