Does anyone know if the Revington TR6 stub axle spacer kit will fit the Vixen?

I thought the front stub axles were Herald sourced?

What advantage does this kit give? I've not heard of any stub axles failing, except in really extreme circumstances, where you would probably want them to fail, rather than ruin your chassis..

This will make interesting reading for you..
in reality uprights fail rather than stubs. Stubs should also be inspected regularly..
All failures are generally as a result of poor maintenance and never inspecting a badly worn / encrusted vertical link, trunnion and stub..
This method can be made to work but in fitting them do you know what you are wanting to guard against?

other options are GT6 thick stubs but you need to know exactly which bits to mix and match..

The std uprights are drum braked herald. The stubs are TR6

What I do know from kit car building is that the three uprights and their stub axles are all different
(i.e Herald | GT6/Vitesse | TR6 )

There are even more steering arms, probably six or more types ?

And Vixen has Herald upright with a TR6 stub axle, which is why they have that special dished spacer on the back.

Just for completeness, I think the vixen steering arms are a Standard 10 item. They are of course NLA, but I found that Mike Brotherhood does remakes here http://www.mikebrotherwood.com/Parts.html. Fortunately mine were rescuable

I always thought Standard 8 but it may be 8 and 10

Thank you all for your replies.

Adrian I suspected the same, thank you for the confirmation. However am I correct to think that the distance between the two inner races of the bearings should be identical to the TR6?

The car is for circuit racing, all components except the hubs and steering arms are new, I have experienced slight extra brake pedal travel upon the first application of the brake pedal after high speed corners. The car does not have big tyres just 185/55-r15 semi slicks, it is like the stubs are flexing a little causing the pads to recede.

Have you looked here, maybe they can help as there uprated parts help eliminate the problem you mention.

Also the Vixen uprights are fitted the wrong way round i.e.the herald N/S becomes a Vixen O/S.

How weak are the original items?

Is this a must upgrade if you are increasing the power output of the original car a little?

Are you upgrading the other parts of the breaking system aswell?

Pigiron you say you are building your vixen for hill climb and sprinting etc. Are you going for quick release bonnet catches? If so do you have the original spare I am missing them for my car.

Thx neil

You probably know this already, but the catches are very similar to the 105E anglia version and the spring catch is also 105E. The only difference between the TVR and the Ford item is a dish shaped receiver on the top of the Anglia item to guide the catch into place.

The TVR items are now pretty rare, although I am sure a few are kicking around some where. You could try TVR Spares once they have their act together.

I have often wondered whether these would be a good candidate for a small batch run of reproductions.

Alternatively, maybe one could dish an appropriately sized washer and weld/silver solder it in place. Anglia items come up regularly on EBay and aren't too expensive, but the spring catches don't seem to.

Old ford parts suppliers might have the spring catches

Spring Catch (on a nice Anglia from a local car show)

Vixen Catch

I know the OE manufacturers has been mentioned on here in the past, but I believe they are long gone (True Neil?)

I though they were made by an external supplier. If they are Fords, then i'd love to know which Ford they were made for wink
