tvr grantura/griffith registration
Discussion
Does anyone know did TVr register any of the tvr's they exported to the USA in the 60's.
I am aware that it was probably pointless TVR doing this, but as many of the cars did sit around for a while prior to export due to dock issues etc some may have been registered in the attempt to sell them elsewhere.
Was wondering, because if they did I would like to get the original registration back for my car if it is at all possible.
thanks

I'm not aware of a register.........which isn't to say there is none....
The 'dock issues' you are refering to happended end of '79, so no Grantura involvement
The Grantura' went tru the dealership of Gerry Sagerman in New York, the engineless Grantura' went to the workshop of Jack Griffith, can't remember where, have no access to my documentation at the mo....
Indeed the club archivist is a good call, whilst at it, join the club, we are a friendly bunch (if you're not a member already) Think you would be a welcomed participant in the pre80' meet in September (see club site)
In addition to the UK club, you might want to contact Marshall Moore, former president of TVRCCNA, whom is very knowledgable on these things (pm me for mail address)

You Don't state what car you asking about 60s allows for many examples from Grantura to 1800s to various Vixens and Griffiths and Tuscans if your referring to a Griffith then there is a Griffith Register but its not available on Line and you would need to talk to the Register Keeper to discuss the car. The rest of the cars will be listed on the factory records that where with David Gerald but are now with TVR heritage if the car was exported as new then the records will just show the Vin Number and the importers name where the registration would be on a UK registered car however if it was one that was sold to a US SEVICE Member as some where and registered here first then exported then that is different more info needed in order to help more

I would think you may have to be a little careful, with what's been in the press recently the dvla could end up giving you a "Q" plate. They could argue that, on a new (and non-original) chassis, new (and non-original) engine, etc, etc. you won't get the eight points (or whatever it is) that you need to keep the car's original identity.
I expect that you know that the dvla have recently started to check Bugatti's carefully - specialists have been creating what are, essentially, new cars that even have new chassis numbers so they may end up with "Q" plates!
Anyway, I don't have a solution for you, I'm just saying tread carefully!
