I use these. You can get vibratechnics which are stiffer again. It depends on the mount. some have the mounting rubbers in the V and a std bolt and washer into the gearbox. Some have the steel on the gearbox and the rubber works in a cup arrangement as you mention. The purpose of the cup is to limit the overall movement in the mount and stop the rubber tearing off the backing steel. If you have the cup then yes it should be fitted.

i don't have the cup but it looks like a good idea to fit one, why not.
Does anyone know where it's possible to buy a cup. The V6 in my 3000S has some torque so i think it's a good idea

Alan,

As per my mail.....

Think it is the wrong carrier, it sits to much forward....

Also, it looks sitting too low (in the picture at least) putting strain on the prop>vibrations, putting strain on the bush

I'm sure Mr. V will be along soon to report he has got the correct carrier, replacement bush and cup

Carrier looks to be as existing 4sp. The type 9 5 speed is longer so gives the impression of the carrier being closer!

Hi Neil,

The type 9 5 speed is indeed longer, hence why Adrian told me to install a carrier which sits on the original mounts but thru design supports the box somewhat further back. Everything lined up just fine.......

And me, on my S series. A far better mounting imho, gearlever certainly doesn't "dance around" anywhere near as much.

hi Frank,
will do, i'm just waiting for delivery of new mounting before i remove the old knackered one. I have located a bell washer and will report back asap. So we can all gain from my TVR very steep Learning curve laughlaugh
Today i'm going to follow some welding lessons with a friend who is a welding trainer for alloy. Could come in handyscratchchin

just an update,
i removed the alloy support and it is marked TVR in the casting.
Also it's marked with an Arrow front. It had been fitted with the Arrow to the back and i suppose this is to postion the mounting further back because of the 5 speed 2.8 Capri Type 9 E that has been used. Also the alloy support is fitted on top of the chassis lugs.

I have now fitted a 5 speed Sierra mounting. It was a little too wide to fit Inside the alloy casting shape so i reduced the width of the new mount to fit. There is 6mm clearance between the alloy support and the gearbox as before where it has been releaved a little.
I have found an original cup washer but it has not arrived yet

just one last question about the gearbox support. When i removed the alloy support there were 2 spacers fitted Under the support at the front screws and none at the back.
So when i fitted the new steel support i did the same and fitted the 2 spacers at the front screws only. This seems strange to me that there are not 4 spacers the same thickness.

You need to fit relevant spacers to ensure that the driveline is in phase. Different or OLD engine and gearbox mountings sag as the years go bye…Spacers will allow the driveline to be put into the correct phase..IE the pinion flange of the diff and the gearbox output shaft or output bearing face should add up to 180 degrees.. The shims will allow you to achieve this..

If you have changed mounts and mountings etc then you should check these measurements.

I have fitted the steel gearbox mounting support and there is now lots of clearance with no contact of the bellhousing great.
BUT when i select Second or Forth gear the gearlever now touches the back of the cutout in the tunnel, making selection of Second and forth gears very diffificult. Do i need to make the cutout bigger or bend modify gear leverconfused

just to update the situation. I have managed to slide the whole tunnel covering backwards 1 cms which means i can now select second and forth gears. The front of the tunnel still goes Under the Dashboard a little so no gaps.
End result perfect thanks to everyones help

Lots of effort for such a marginal gearbox?
