Ford Sierra "Sapphire" Transmission
Discussion
Good Day
I was wondering if someone could help.
Ive Driven my Sapphire for a while now and suddenly the fifth gear would not engage.
about a week after the gearbox started whining. it would cost me too much to get it fixed so i was thinking about buying the 4 speed "Bullet" box but i don't know if it would fit. Any Ideas?
the car currently has a type 9, 5 speed gearbox.
Thank You
Saber!

The 4-speed may need a different bellhousing and definitely has a different propshaft 'nose.
The gearbox mount is in a different place as well.
There are plenty of type-9 'boxes around - much easier (and cheaper) to replace like-for-like.
Just need to be careful to make sure it has the same front driveshaft, as later (Capri-style) 'boxes have a 1-inch longer one.
I've just upgraded my Vixen from 4-speed to 5-speed, if you really want to go back to a 4-speed.
Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions!
