Just thought I would post some pictures of my old M series, the photos were taken in 1992 when I owned it.

The car was apparently one of about six 2500Ms that were delivered by the factory to John Brittens in Arkley (now The TVR Centre) without engines, as there was some doubt as to the future supply of Ford engines, to experiment with the wonderful Rover V8.

Needless to say the car went extremely well! I ran my own business at the time I owned it and had a large tax bill looming on the back of previous good years but as we were then in recession I sold it. I'd love to know where it is now - Reg No. NYT 100L.

Looks like a nice car. Did the Rover V8 go in OK?
I've been emailing another member of this site about Rover V8 conversions and he said his went in with too many dramas.

What was the performance of your car like?

V8 fit was very snug! Particulary around the exhaust manifolds. I think a small piece of chassis was modified (cut off) to give clearance. There was no room for a spare wheel under the bonnet and a hump was put in the bonnet top to clear the carbs.

I don't have any performance figures but the car was very quick with loads of torque from low revs, it only had a 4 speed box but with the torque it didn't really matter.

Exhaust was LOUD as it didn't have any silencers, just a couple of what I believe were Renault 19 expansion boxes, which all added to the performance feel.

I did a trackday at Cadwell Park and it felt like a very well sorted car.

I think the correct technical term is 'Power Bulge'. Sounds a lot better than 'hump' too..

I too am a former V8M owner (my car was featured in sprint) now turned Griff owner (4.5 BV). Have you much history on your old M? I was aware of only 2 original Rover powered V8M's made by the Barnett Mo Co. My old car (1972 2500M) was copy carried out by the original owner with help from the factory in 1975.

Info on it be useful (Still an M nut).

I have no history other than the recollections in my previous posting.

When I sold the car it was to a Gent in Coventry but I don't know if he's still got it.

I did speak to a previous owner while I had the car and he confirmed what I had been told about the car's origins.
