Having trouble with the door lock mechanism, I can not open the door using the pull handle inside,it works fine when using exterior handle, locks with push/pull column and key fine too. Had a look today and what I noticed between the working mechanism and faulty one was the movement of a tab, whilst fitted to the car and connected up properly, the tab did not move even though the full range of the handle had been exploited on the faulty mechanism, However this tab does move on the good mechanism.

Hopefully the crayon on the pictures below can demonstrate what I mean.

The long thin lever runs to the interior door pull handle, when this is pulled the first phase of movement occurs through the blue stage, if it is continually pulled the second phase occurs through the red movement. As you can see the tab in question only moves during the second phase. Whilst fitted in the car, the handles full range of movement is limited to the blue phase.

Does the movement of this tab allow the door to unlock from inside? if so the only way I can see this problem being solved is to shorten the lever running to interior pull handle to give it a larger range of movement thus engaging the second, red phase?

here is a picture of the mechanism from behind just incase something has come undone or a spring can be altered.

I had to take the full window out to get at the lock, shirley there is an easier way?

That lock looks VERY familiar to me, it's the same as in the wedges too, at least the early ones. That lock is from Ford Cortina and other Fords.

I had a problem with mine where the grease had 'hardened', and the lock didn't work properly. Even the main catch mechanism didn't move properly, and was very, very slow.

As Adrian suggested, give it a good clean. Mine was so bad I ended up soaking it in a small bowl of petrol for 24 hours, and then cleaned and lubricated it - worked perfectly afterwards, and still does !!

Cleaned it up and got it all back together. With the window out and looking down through the slot in the top of the door it came from, I pulled on the external handle with what Adrian had said in mind but could not picture what was supposed to happen or what was not happening to leave it in the half open/closed position. I could not get my head around it there and then, but as I have re read what you have said the penny has dropped and I now understand the FAULT. I will have another few reads and trials then attempt the cure next weekend.

Thank you for the advice, I was hovering over the 'buy it now' button for the Cortina lock, convinced the problem lied within the lock itself.

Hi there,
I am sorry for opening this topic again. I am having the same problem with the door lock of my 1978 Taimar. Did you finally solve the problem and how did you do so?

Thanks,
Peter

I'm pleased you have reopened this topic.
I'm having problems with the driver's door on my 3000M.
Sometimes i close the door normally and it latches correctly and sometimes the door jumps open onto the safety catch.
If i reopen and slam it still won't latch, then i close softly and it latches.
I can feel a strip down of the door coming soon.
