Ford Crossflow Oil Filter ? Not
Discussion
Here's the specs for that HP-2005 link.
Thread Specification: 3/4 In. - 16
Main applications seem to be VWs and Audis, few Mercs and BMWs and a Porsche 924.
Comparing the Mahle numbers on Opie for the correct crossflow one (OC21) and that Porsche, would suggest it won't fit, as the Porsche Mahle one is OC47.
A bit more digging reveals it may fit, as the OC21 thread is 3/4"-16 too, and both have outer diameter of 76mm, K&N one is 50mm longer though.

:-) lol
Just like when I go to the local autopart store (that mostly do carbon stickers for the young civic crowd)....
me - Hi I need a oilfilter with a 3/4"-16tpi thread 2-5/8 inch diameter and 4½ inch length
salesman - errrrhhhhh what ?
m - An oil filter, you know ?
s - Yes, of cause we have oil filters !
m - ok, then can you please find me one with a 3/4"-16tpi thread 2 5/8 inch diameter and 4½ inch length ?
s - I don't know that's your meaning..... what car do you have ?
m - You won't know it... but it's for an TVR.
s - No I dont know that model. But we don't have parts for it, sorry.
m - But I changed the engine to one from another car, so perhaps you have one for that ? It's an duratec AJ30 engine
s - A what ?
m - a duratec AJ30, from a Jaguar S type.
s - ok, I can check if we have one for a Jaguar....... no sorry not in stock, I have to order one for you.
m - 1................10 ok boy, I'll make it easy for you. It's the same type used on a 1.6 year 2001 VW golf with 103 hp.
s - Do you have a licens plate number, then you will be sure to get the right one.
m - 1...................................100 - please find one for a golf !!
It's just so dificult no to do it :-)

Well it lists a lot of cars that are crossflow just does not make sense that they don't list engines rather than cars here is one fitted on a crossflow if its longer that's not really an issue as more oil and more filtration areaThread Specification: 3/4 In. - 16

Sorry I have to teach my friend some engine detailing skills

Sympathy and lol - been there too many times !!
Interesting, I had similar conversations for the Tasmin here in NZ.
Thankfully the local shop assistants here actually have enough brains to get the old hand in the back of the store, who has more experience.
Me - "...Oil filter for TVR.... I'm sure there IS a small Ford one, you guys won't have a listing for a 2.8 Cologne engine I reckon, as it's not mainstream engine here."
Old Guy - "What, like a 2.8i Capri?...OK, I know there's size and thread specs back here somewhere...."
And he ACTUALLY FOUND A COUPLE OF CANDIDATES - hoo-bloody-ray!!
That's why I love NZ, they still have the idea of customer service
Try Renualt 11, 16, and 4 cyl (I think) BMW 3 and 5 series - Coopers Z71 (= Champion C107, if they still exist)
I'm pretty sure it fits Crossflow blocks as well as Cologne V6....and it's smaller both in dia and hieght than the
'standard' ones.
(standard 'large' filter is a pain to fit in the wedge, the Z71 is MUCH easier....)

Just remembered the brake pad one too...
Me - "set of pads for a Cortina Mk4 please..."
Shop Guy - "er... <pause - looks at screen> No sorry we'll have to order some"
Me - "that's OK, how about a set for a TR6"
Shop Guy "Why ?"
Me "they are the same - PB16 caliper"
Shop Guy "No they can't be, they have a different part number"
Me "I KNOW they are the same"
Shop Guy "But they have a different part number"
Me "Oh never mind"
AARRGHHHH !!

I've got 2 engines for my Vixen. The original is from a 1970 1600GT Capri and the one in it at the moment is from a 1976 Escort 1600 Mexico and the filters are different sizes. The thread size is different and the length of the filter is also different. Burton Power only list one for the Ford Crossflow. I had a long conversation with them many years ago about there being two different sizes but the guy I spoke to wouldn't have it.

Thanks Nigel
That's interesting no idea what car my engine came from although now buil to GT 1700 spec the filter housing is a bolt on part is there any way that another type was bolted on at some stage to yours from another engine still learning but the more I learn the more I realise that lots of parts where shared between manufactures to save production set up costs.

The housings both look identical and I are both Formoco. Also at my local autofactors I get the correct filter for both engines if I ask for the car and year they were fitted to. ie 1976 Ford Escort 1600 or 1970 Ford Capri 1600 so I assume there was a difference between the 701M engine and the 711M engine.

I do seem to remember something about oil filters when we first got the 1600M, possibly that the very early ones had one of the filters with a removable element inside, but not sure on that. I'm sure we made a mistake with the first filter we got, as we thought we'd determined the pump we'd got by the type of end plate on the pump (something to do with the veins of the pump being different too), which differs between early and late, but then it turned out it was a later style pump with a different end plate, so the filter we got wasn't right.Nige
The replacement arrived today looks the right size the one on the left is a cheap after market one which is smaller than the usual motorcraft ford one however this is about an inch longer than the Original ford one
If the thread is correct then that will be great as the length is not an issue as there is plent of space and if it does then increased filtration area and flow is not a bad thing
Will keep you posted just in case others want to change over to K&N filters
