The automatic choke on my 1977 Taimar is becoming a real pain doing what ever it wants. I'm thiking of having it replaced with a manaul choke. Is this a good idea? Has anybody else converted their choke?

Have you checked for air in the coolant system, the carb is a high point and the first to suffer when the coolant level is low.

Also when the engine is cold pump the throttle twice before starting to set the auto choke, NEVER pump the throttle before starting when the engine is warm.

My Auto choke was playing up. I found it was because the linkage was sticky due to being gummed up. I overhauled it, cleaning it with white spirit, and sprayed the linkage with wd40, and it now works a treat.
