Well the journey begins after buying the Taimar earlier in the year we now have lift of on the reberth of the Taimar.
Looking forward to getting down and dirty will be stripping her down early in the new year and asses the damage from its incounter with a sign post and see what can be re used and what we will renew.[url]

Car is heading to the Restorers where i will be doing the strip down and taking all the parts etc home for refurb.
looking forward to a steep learning curb and hopefully a great end result.

Yes with the price of stainless scrap I should get some beer tokens for them .
Yes Damage does not look to bad digital photography does hide a multitude of sins.
New screen bonnet and front running gear will be on the shopping list me thinks for starters.
Full shopping list will be created at strip down and then head off to
Almost Drives Round In Another Neighbourhood 24 Miles?? and do a major shopping spree and get EXACTY the right parts.

Yes i saw that its the wrong bonnet for the Taimar wrong front and the bumpers on mine are perfect and stainless not chrome so at present probaby half the value of the car.
Nice buy if someone wants bonnet and bumpers but will need re chroming from the look of them fairly rusty.

Just wondering if any of you can recommend an engine re builder although the engine was running well before the bump it really deserves a re built engine and would like to take her to the same level as my 3000s ie stage 2 fact road cam etc and wondered what experience others have had with various builders Burton Power was who i was thinking although i hear great things about Rick Wood.

I only know only a few folk that speak well of Ric Wood, but he does have the ability to get large numbers from an Essex. I often wonder if folk undertsand the limits and life post some of the extreme work he does and if that lack of understanding manifests itself in dissapointment when the inevitable happens...
A freshen with a fast road cam, lead free heads with some porting, steel timing gear for peace of mind and a balance should see a nice road engine pushing 160 BHP after some tweeks on the rollers.
Burton should do this for you, it will be done well with good parts.
John Wade is regarded highly in the Essex world although I have no first hand experience.

Yes that confirms what i had thought i have spoken with John Wade and Burtons today really had a good feeling about John and his approach and the factor that the whole engine build being done by one person is a good thing i dont need to know what he does all i need to know is he has done it well and rightwhich others today have testified he does.
With Burtons there parts are great however with them using outside companys for the build and no one person responsible for the build from start to finish this is not my favoured option so i have asked John to put me in his diary.
Regards Rick Wood yes looks like he does fantastic work and is achieving amazing performance this is at a cost to engine life and not what i am after.
165bhp as i have from the 3000s is what i want and a build that will see the car though many miles and years so thanks.

Ric Wood have invested a lot of money tuning the Essex engine and making up some very sexy CNC'd parts but like Jon I have my reservations about them.
Engine building is only as good as the machining and cleaning involved in the process and selecting the correct combination of parts that work for a given application. My view is that you should go to john's mate, tell him what you want the engine to do and hand over the folding stuff accordingly.
If you have never re-built an engine yourself then I would suggest that unless you are going to make a habit of it, you wont possess the inside mikes, plastigauge etc etc to measure the engine properly for wear let alone re-build.
Experience has taught me though...do your engine when the rest of the car is complete, and give it to someone you trust. When the engine is built then dyno run it to break in and ensure all the oil and coolant is circulated everywhere.

HELP PLEASE can anyone help firstly with a picture of the plastic piece that goes under the bolt between the bulk head outside the car and the wiper arm also having checked it seems that the only option for replacment wiper arms are the TEX ones however they do so many different ones can anyone give me the correct tex code for the ones that will fit the Taimar in stainless Please unless someone has some original ones and even better plactic pieces for the wiper attatchments.
