What have you done in your Garage this evening??
Discussion
Two pictures cant really explain it but here goes..
the bonnet already removed.
I have started clipping off and marking up all of the cabling to the front end and chasing it back to the bulkhead.
next the radiator was removed and it appears that the aluminium thermostat housing is badly corroded, full of gungy wax like stuff, and leaking.
next the front inner wings have been removed and the clutch cable and accelerator cable disconnected.
When I ran it uo yesterday for a while the oil filter popped and dumped the oil on the exhaust too, which was fun!
I think the engine will need a rebuild!
Tomorrow there will be more pictures!!
Stuff on the needed list so far:-
Carb rebuild kit
Therostat housing
water pump
fan belt
top hose
bottom hose
radiator
removal of inlet to clean out where the antifreeze has attacked the alloy

Can't compete with Lathe-Level man points.
My latest meagre offering is this:
Found a convenient local powder coater so I took him some engine ancillaries to powder coat and got them back this week. Progress is painfully slow at the moment juggling other priorites, but nearly got the engine back together.

Not got a picture at the moment, but Dad sprayed the engine bay again on the Taimar, so it's pretty much ready to be put aside so we can start building up the chassis (yay). Will have lots of pictures then.
And, not in the garage, and not TVR based, but I did some rust treatment and painting underneath the mini on the drive today. Painted both sills, and sill vents, ready for some Dynax Wax on the next fine day.
Also moved two radiators and a pair of V6 exhaust manifolds into the loft. Nearly got car parts in every room of the house,

Tonight I have mostly...
Removed all 14 chassis bolts
Jacked up the rear of the tub and squeezed a steel in above the chassis to enable me to suspend it from the garage rafters
jacked up the front end and clipped off all of the cable ties from the chassis
disconnected the brake lines and master cylinder (seized soild)
No photos today, ll put a choice 2 on tomorrow.. Im knackered!

Nothing to the Tvr but was given some ads crossovers, so finally amped my door speakers, very happy.
However, one thing I did notice in the gold Taimar above, it appears my top wishbones are upside down when compared. :-/
That can't be good. However, one thing I did notice in the gold Taimar above, it appears my top wishbones are upside down when compared. :-/
I'm pretty sure the bit that attaches to the ball-joint isn't in the centre of the arm, because of the castor.
Can't be good for the ball-joint I'd have thought.

Are you saying that Goldmember is correct?

Here's a pic of my rebuilt front end showing them the correct way up and showing that the front upper wishbone arm is longer than the rear one. (I needed Adrian's help on this at the time!).HTH

Well done that man, and keep at it. Looks stunning.I am determined to rebuild at least one car in my lifetime and when that day comes my number one choice is an old Vixen (so long as there are still some left to refurbish!) Has it been a real nightmare or is it been a fairly do-able project for novices like me? Some pictures of the car as you found her 2 years ago would be great.

For some reason when rebuilding it looked better the other way up. Anyway, swapped and sorted :-)HTH
