New Taimar chassis

Finally i have bitten the bullet. I am going to have chassyman build me a new chassis for the Taimar. Could get the local garage to bodge the original one for a "shotgun" MOT, but figure its a waste of time in the longer term.
My question is to you all, do i need to or should i want to ask chassyman to make a new chassis to original spec , or is there any mods or improvements i could request???

Hi Sandy,
My old chassis was a complete disaster so I had a new chassis built by Keith top job he did.As I recall he used heavier gauge tubing for the main rails. If your having a new chassis you could consider the five speed gearbox modification lots have had this done. I believe this requires a modified gear box mounting and hand brake mod propshaft ?
You could also consider a roll cage. You can also cross brace the rear lower wishbones I had this done by Keith.

Does he have a website? I found Duncan's "TVR Classics" link. . . . . but wondered it anyone had Keith's info specifically.

Readily available stainless steel tube and rectangular sections are normally 304 or 316 grade.
Neither of those are suitable for a chassis.
More exotic grades would be cost prohibitive.
There is a grade (can’t remember it’s exact designation) which is mainly mild steel with a small nickel/ chrome content that would be very usable, but I’m not sure if it’s available in the tube sizes required.

TVR made also a few for some race cars, forgot which models that was.
I guess you can order one at some TVR specialist who also build new chassis, it can be an option, no idea about the extra cost though.
there is also the zink option, or per bath, but then you need to know what you do, or hot zink spray, sounds better then just paint :-)
the endless discussion...since years.....commonly available stainless tubes are not suitable for chassis....and its neither necessary to use stainless.
a kitcar manufacturer , called "RobinHood" has done some stainless monocoques and some stainless tube chassis.
aprat from the fact that the complete kits had been rubbish, both mentioned types were well known for cracking
every steel-tube chassis can be nowadays treated that it wont rust anymore.
easiest (and oldschool) would be hot-dip zinc....and i already here the conspirators:

it has been done multiple times and it works.
the TVR chassis with all its cross-tubing are sturdy enough to withstand this procdure.

Hi, I'm in the process of ordering a new chassis for my 2500M from TVR Classics, is there anywhere near you (if you still live in LLantrisant!) that could galvanise the chassis? I live up the road in Tonyrefail.no. it wont...it wont if you do some minimal prepation drilling small holes (min 8mm) into the tubing.
