Battery for 1979 Taimar
Discussion
I wonder if anyone out there can help me please.
The battery needs replacing on my 1979 Taimar.
I have looked up the owners hand book and that specifies a 57 amp hour battery.
The existing battery is 220mm long x 135mm wide x 220mm high.
The problem is I cannot find one that size which gives 57 amp hours.
The critical dimensions are the width and height.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and how did they get around it?

A quick guide....
The most important rating for your battery is its CCA (Cold Cranking Amps). This is the max current it can supply to the starter on a cold morning (and so defines how fast it will turn over).
RC (reserve capacity) is a measure of how much total energy ('juice') it can hold (this is the amp hours rating).
an approx guide
For 4 cyls you need in the region of 250-300 CCA
for V6 more like 400-450
for V8 more like 500-600
depending upon actual engine model.
Get the biggest battery that will physically fit in your space....is my default advice.

I've got a type 015 on my Scimitar SE5A and 3000S and they're both rated at 280 CCA and I've not had any problems with them. The one on the 3000S has been on there for 18 years and still going strong. I think I may have tempted fate now :-( The Scimitar was my everyday car for quite a few years and has always had a type 015 fitted (always started fine even on the coldest of days) and is the recommended battery for it. I would have thought that the dimensions and the positioning of the terminals is more important.
The one you suggested could be a bit too high.
I hope that helps.
