1970 Vixen heated rear window?
Discussion
I'm led to believe that these exist and I would very much like to get my hands on one if they do. Can anyone help? The car isn't mine, so I'm not really sure where I should be looking. I've fired off a few emails and trawled the internet but I'm not having much success. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Yes they do exist as my S2 had one..Toughened.
I asked as to what happened to WFD 400H some time ago and the last clue was it went to a Father & Son outfit where as far as i know it still is.
I would assume ..No it must be very heavy and at one time i was thinking of replacing with a plastic affair. But it sure looked nice.
There are firms that make glass to pattern..More likely laminated.

Triplex had around twenty five of them which were going to be binned in the late eighties. As one of their UK distributors, we were offered the stock at a reasonable price prior to disposal. David Gerald Sports Cars somehow got to hear of the stock disposal and claimed rights to the parts. They took the lot and presumably sold them all.
All of the original tooling was destroyed long ago, but we have looked into new production in toughened (and heated) as per the original. This would probably have to be done in Italy due to the complex shape of the glass.
Unit cost would be high, probably around £5-600 each and the minimum batch quantity would be at least twenty five. There would also be an initial tooling cost. All of this makes further production unlikely.

Vixen S2 never had glass rear windows as OE, they were introduced unheatrd as an option part way through Vixen S3 production and obviously later Tuscan V6,s. Heated rears were fitted to M series cars throughout production. I have both heated and unheatrd but when they are gone they are gone. Can also supply polycarbonate. sTeVeR

Both the Early S2's (pre servo) I had had OE Unheated tinted sundym Glass rear screens! My S1 vixen also had a glass rear screen but I don't know if it was an original one or not.
I made a tidy profit selling them!!

May well be the case Neil but doesn,t mean they were fitted in production. I have seen Vixen S3,s with Sierra diffs and Zetec engines, Vixen S1,s with Salisbury Powerlock diffs and 289 Ford V8,s.
I can go with you on the S1 but my Old very early S2 was original probably sympathetically restored with sundym all round and matching tinted windows all round..I would be very very surprised if that car was not originally fitted with Glass..did the factory supply as special order with S2 Production? One of the biggest regrets I have selling that car. It is the one I should have kept and should still be driving. it is blasting around in Sicily now I think I could swear that this had the rear screen OE.

Have emailed you.According to my phone so have 203 other people,I, ll have a look tomorrow. What amazes me is wherever I go everyone except me seems to have a phone grafted to the side of their face but nobody ever seems to speak. I can see a time where we will evolve with long thin fingers and ears looking like grafted on mobiles. 07831 389500

Looking at it from the Vixen's perspective, although Northumberland is pretty, I think it would prefer the climate in Sicily....

I,m not laughing. Many years ago I sold a Grantura Mk3 to a guy in America called Corleone and 6 weeks later his girlfriend "called in" to see me on the way to a "family " wedding. Thankfully it was to tell me he loved it and he wanted some photos of her in my car
