Gear linkage for mid engined Vaux XE
Discussion
Hi all,
First post on here, so please be gentle
I'm plotting a mid-engined Mini-based project, with a Vauxhall XE lump slung roughly where the back seats should be. I've got most of the frame, suspension, hubs etc. figured out, but I'm still unsure about the best way to arrange the gear linkage. I've heard of a couple of kit cars (notably the CC Cyclone) that have used a mid mounted XE to good effect, so I wondered if anyone could shed some light on how the gear linkage is done in those cars. Any ideas/pics/sites would be greatfully appreciated!!
TIA,
Matt

Also a very good resource can be found at.....

Go to the forum and check out the mid-engine section...we are all doing something similar to your project.

maybe i read it wrong, but TWO gear levers?? for just four gears. Add two more levers and it'd be like a top-fuel dragster
Hi Alan,
I'd already looked at your site and Steve Grabers. In fact, it was in no small part down to you two that convinced me that my project was achievable. I'll definitely keep my eye on the Locost Builders site too. Anyone know any specifics of how people have done it with an XE? The actual mechanism is a pretty straightforward layout, but it's offset heavily to one side which is causing me some head-scratching.

Matt, although I'm a Brit, I've been in the US long enough to not be familiar with recent Vauxhall stuff. However, there is a guy on locostbuilders called NSDev IIRC who has used Vauxhall stuff in grasstrack racers...I'm sure he'd have some answers....check out his photo archive there too.
