What is the correct running temperature for this engine, it seems to get quite hot in the car with the gauge showing around 80/85deg, is this too high ?

Any advise appreciated as usual !

80-85 sounds OK for engine running temp. Heat in car probably due to proximity to exhaust and engine. Also, check heater valve (if you have a heater) maybe stuck open.

Thank you !

I should probably get rid of the heater - excess weight

Mine runs at 88 degrees C as that's what the thermostat opens at, so you should be fine

unless your gauge isn't working properly

Mine sits at 90-92 degrees constant. The engine temp looks fine. I did get a lot of radiated heat coming back from the exhaust manifolds, which probably generate more heat than the engine itself, but wrapping the manifolds under the bonnet solved that problem

If you've not got a heater fitted you can remove the thermostat, thus avoiding the heat build up, my tiger runs a lot cooler without it.

You shouldn't remove the thermostat, it's function is to keep the engine operating at a constant temperature and has nothing to do with the heater. Operating without a thermostat will cause the engine to take longer to warm up, and it's running temperature will vary depending on ambient temperature i.e. engine will run cooler in winter than summer.

If the engine was overheating prior to removing the thermostat, it suggests the thermostat was faulty.

My Pinto engined Tiger Supersix runs happily between 85-90c. Hope this helps
