On my stylus was a failiure at Southampton.
I know the bad reports, but its local & a friend has just had his Westfield SVAd and informed me of the helpful friendly people thay are. And they are; well, some anyway. But here goes.
1) Demist fan not enough puff. Its a mini unit & I believe thay are marignal any way.
2) Some mountings use spring washers. In places these are hard to tell if they are spring washers or are missing. Use nylocks.
3) Seat Belt fixings. I have 4 point harness. I have used the eye bolts supplied but I need a letter from the manufacturers stating the pulling capacity!
4) Need a grill fitted. I fixed a rubber edging around the opening but I need to fit a grill still. Fitting Spot lights like the Stylus demo may be an alternative or I may put a divider in such as the Chimeara/Cerbera way.
5) Letter from Ford stating the age of my engine. I understand this is standard now.
6) A letter from Yokahama or data sheet stating the in use circumferance of the tyres, for speedo purposses. Well? I didnt see that one comeing.
6) Various other odds such as more cable & pipe tidy & the padded roll over bar as posted on a previous thread.
Looks like the Tivs going to Stoneleigh.

Don't they have rollers to check speedo calibration in Southhampton?
Some of the other stuff seems picky (demister fan?) but maybe all SVA centres going this way. My lot in Aberdeen concentrated on bolts/nuts and I agree best to use nylocks - also make sure your bolts are long enough for a couple of threads to protrude through the nylocks.

The table below shows the month and year of your engine from the first two letters of the engine number on the block..(Sorry I don't have a list with later years on) They accepted my Sierra log book as evidence, but the SVA tester did also take a copy of this table as supporting evidence
The speedo calibraton one is an odd one. Mine was tested on rollers.
Hearing this sort of thing puts me off another build

>>1) Demist fan not enough puff.
Thats why I did SVA without a screen, saved tons of hassle.

Always always nylocks. That said some of mine have been fitted and removed several times therefore don't lock as well, but they don't test how affective your nuts are (oo-er)

If it doesn't have an M rating on it I can see why they'd pick that up.
>>4) Need a grill fitted.
Can you fit a small childs head in it? If so fair enough, wouldn't want little kiddies headbutting the rad now.
>>5) Letter from Ford stating the age of my

Didn't know it was standard, but I heard the horror stories and took the precaution of getting one. They need to know the age to determine the level of emmitions testing.

What garbage, I'd query this with them. It's their job to determine whether you speedo is callibrated accuratley for the tyres fitted. I'm unclear as to why they need to know your tyre circumference in order to gauge what speed the car is travelling?
(unless someone can correct me)

My car was literally wrapped in soft stuff in order to appease them.

Thanks for replys.
Speedo & Tyre sizes - My Speedo has a sensor on the front wheel (not driven). They cannot test this on their rolling road.
So I have to show them how to callibrate and carry out a demonstration. No problem I said (I took the manual with me). Well they said, when your travelling the tyre deforms. So I need the data stating the deformed circumferance enabling correct speed reading.

Thanks for cheering me up lads!
My SVA is next Thursday, let's hope that the Guys at Birmingham are a little more lenient than Southampton.
Has anyone had any problems with the wheelarches not covering the tyre correctly as I have a feeling mine may be slightly proud at the front?

Wind them in at the top for the test. I believe its the tread protruding from the body work not the side walls they test for.
They dont check alignment. Just caster for centering, with a short drive in the car park.
Good Luck.
