With all of the talk of the Stratos, I think it will be the one I finally go for.

If I build one...do you think it is necessary to build one that is true to the original? I was thinking about running different guages, suspension, brakes.

What have others done to theirs?

What sort of hp are people getting? Should I stick to the Alfa V6? Or would another engine be a good option??

I think a Stratos is enough of its own style and type of car not to have to rely on total originality. I suggest you make whatever changes you wish.

I'd look at the lister bell one, very very well thought out, I'd love to build one! I wouldn't use original gauges either.

I too would look at the Lister Bell ( http://www.listerbell.com/ ) It's my understanding that the panel fit is quite a bit better.

I know Gerry Hawkridge quite well and have been close to ordering a Hawk HF3000 a couple of times...

His red demonstrator is about as close to a real Stratos Stradale as you can get. But all that originallity comes at a price. However, when building a rally'esque version I think it is not so imprortant to stick to originality, in terms of resale values i mean. It will never be a "real" Stratos is absolute terms, but it is about as close as it gets and values will reflect that with certain buyers who want it to look 100% convincing.

The spec me and Gerry came up with for mine were a plain white 'arched and light-podded version, no rally livery, using a plain black interior. Recaro and Sabelt are two names you MUST have in your Stratos interior!!! That kept costs down, and totally acceptable. But I would have to stretch to correct dash gauges, another must for me. Engine wise it HAD to be a 3.0 Alfa V6, no 4 pot! 12 valve or 24 valve, but I was thinking 12 valve for mine. And I HAD to have coffin-spoke wheels.

The bottom line it is your car, but be aware if you are planning to do something wacky with it Gerry might not sell you a kit, no matter how much money you wave under his nose!!! And thats how it should be.

Something like this one from Talon would do.

But there are others out there.

Would putting a rotary in be soooooo bad?

It does make me chuckle when people say 'I won't sell you a kit'! Looks like another reason for a Lister Bell kit wink

It is a tad unnecessary! These are meant to be austerity times, and I wasn't planning to build a shed!

Gerry is just protecting his business, he holds the rights to the genuine Stratos, if you have a real one you go to him for spares. He can create for you if you wish an EXACT replica using a Ferrari V6. He has to protect the Stratos. As stated, if you want to go leftfield I am sure there are several other companies who will enthusiastically help you with your project. As a fast car, it sounds a fun project.

I don't see how Gerry can make an EXACT replica when his chassis is tube frame...

Fair point! I shouldnt have used the "exact" word. But the Hawk uses a chassis which is lighter and stiffer than a real one, and does exactly replicate the originals suspension geometry if you so wish. But i think he has "tweaked" them slightly which he prefers to supply to make it better. It is not a steel tub like the real one, but as you say a tube chassis. But to lift the body and look at the engine bay it looks very real, correct fuel tank positions etc. Likewise the body, he couls supply you a "real" body with shutlines to match or his "tweaked" ones.

OP.

Everything you could possibly ask with regards to Hawk or Lister Bell replicas - along with originals - can be found here,

http://www.stratossupersite.com/forum/index.php

This is the Stratos forum. It also links to the closed forum of the Stratos' Enthusiasts' Club.

Many members on there have built kits. These guys are craftsmen. A Hawk kit is no bolt on job. They're a very welcoming lot. They even let me join! smile

One word of advice. Use the search option first to find out the basics before you resort to a thread.

Does the Listerbell car have wind down windows?
I can only see reference to perspex side windows. Not good.
Apart from that, it gets my hormones bouncing!
