Kit Cars for tall people
Discussion
I love kit cars, I always have, but I'm having difficulty finding cars that I can fit in. I know I can fit in the GTM Libra (but strangely not the Spyder), the Shelsley T2 and the Luego Viento, but apart from that I'm a bit limited. Given I'm still a student, my budget is pretty restricted too! Has anyone got any suggestions?
(Had a go at getting in a VX220 a few weeks ago. Fat chance! I couldn't even get one leg under the wheel!)

There is an R500 SV around an I believe the guy who owns it is well over 6 ft.
Caterham 7 SV will accomodate guys over 6ft 5 and probably 20 stone plus. They have fitted most engines in it now from 1.6 115bhp to 230 bhp.
There are also some specials floating around including a 280 bhp N/A Cosworth and a still under construction 340 bhp 2.0 litre V8 engine.

He's 6'8"
I managed to get in a VX220 but couldn't see the instruments, steering wheel against my legs, eyes lined up with the top of the windscree. No way could I get in if the hood was up.

I'm 6'6" / 18st and i drive a swb dax rush, the only mod is a plate to move the steering wheel off my knees (it has the squab seats which give more room than the highbacks). Drove the car everyday for over a year too. Westy was a little tight with proper seat, but the same fixes would probably apply.
All you need is the attitude that your size isnt gonna get in the way of your fun! (and a pair of narrow driving boots!!!)

I found out about the narrow shoes thing a couple of years back when I tried to drive a standard caterham! I actually found the fiat seicento worse. Every time I lifted off the throttle I got my foot stuck behind the brake! Not ideal. I sat in a SV at the motor show last year and I couldn't even touch the pedals! Shame they're so pricey. I've had my eye on an Aeon, going to have to investigate whether can fit in it, or whether I should start taking yoga lessons.

I have an Aeon, I'm 6'2" and about 16 stone with long legs. I can sit quite comfortably in the car with a crash helmet on. I must admit that getting in and out is a matter of practice to find the easiest route but I'm sure thats the same for "most" kit cars( I have a Fury and have tried many others and its all the same--don't pull on the screen surround or steering wheel or lean on the arches or back panel etc--- At Stafford a guy called Alex, who has a Jester, tried it for size and fitted hes 6'9".
Hi sook,
Just thought I'd let you know that Dax have an open day on Friday and there are bound to be people about who will let you try to sit in their cars. That's what I did when deciding what to buy, although I'm only 6'1" so not as much of a problem for me. I am however a student at Loughborough so I understand the financial problems

I would go to the Dax open day, but I'm going to be back at home in Oxford visiting the parents! From what I've been reading on the Kitcar and Caterham forums, I may be able to fit in a standard sized 7, if it has different seats and a removable steering wheel. I just got Ron Champion's book and the Kit car manual today. Lots of bedtime reading! Can't think why I didn't buy it years ago!
If its a seven style car , over here the most popular Locost version is a 4 2 2 , namely a 4" wider 2" longer , 2" higher , most seem to use that . chassis plans available on Web through Oz Locost Group , chassis have side impact protection and have passed all relevant engineering tests ( we have to get cars tested by a motor engineer here - for torsional stiffness , safety & driveability . put in an MX5 doner and you have a nice car
