New boy from Wales
Discussion
Hi all,
Having recently come to the decision that I will be 50 before I can afford a Lotus Elise I bought a copy of Kit Car mag and am going to join the crazy world of kit cars within a month.
Am thinking of a Robin Hood as a cheap start probably 1.6l, should provide some fun in the summer?, have loved Westfield since I was a kid but a bit too expensive for a second car at the moment.
Would love to hear from any Robin Hood owners or Kit Car nuts from North Wales area.

Welcome to the forum boyo!
Firstly, don't do anything till you read the NEW Robin hood brochure(more like a book really) that will be inside next month's "Kit Car"...
Beat you to it Den......
This booklet really makes superb reading, whether or not you are interested in Robin Hood Cars or not, full marks to MD. Richard Stewart for refreshing honesty.....
For example this is what they had to say about the Robin Hood hood.....
"We would be very quick to point out, that the fitting of the hood takes time and patience, and whilst our hood and sidescreens are as good, if not better than our competitor's equivelent, they cannot match the soft tops of today's production cars. Whilst you will be very glad of the hood if it rains, it is not totally leak proof"
Personally, I have never given RH cars a second thought, but after reading this booklet, and if I didn't have my Tiger Supersix, I would give the company very serious consideration......

wacky is that the booklet that was available at staffs show If it is I got one too the management picked it up cos she liked the rager but I would seriously consider the super spec.
I would imagine it is the very same booklet Andy, and very good it is too, loads of interesting reading......
That Super spec looks a decent deal at around 7k with a BRAND NEW Rover Engine, turbo ALSO available note...
The only thing to be honest that puts me off (and I KNOW this is unfair) is the name.....I mean Caterham, Tiger, Westfield, Dax etc, names with a bit of Kudos, but I just feel saying you have a Robin Hood down the pub is a bit like saying you drive a Lada or a Skoda....
Yes I KNOW it's stupid, but it's just how I see it....

Just put me off a Robin Hood. Got to have some Kudos. Where are all the Robin Hood Fans on this site?
You want kudos?
Get yourself an Ultima.
Robin Hood's certainly have their place in the kit car world and are hard to beat if you are on a very tight budget.
Remind us again, is it a '7' type you are looking for?
There are a fair few alternatives like the Fisher Fury (and others like it), Onyx Fastcat (if you want to be different), Harlequin Jester (if FWD and slightly querky looks are your thing) or maybe a Sylva Mojo?
Your budget should get you most of these.
With the interest in the Libra, there are a lot of GTM K3s about. A friend took me out in his 1.4Mpi engined one and I was VERY impressed.
They are a genuine all year 'round car with a soft/hard top. There have even been some VVC engined cars
Worth considering. Some good ones about for less than the budget you're talking about!!!

Must admit I'm in the same boat as Wacky, in that I have for years been opinionated about RHs even though the latest products are very humbling.
I guess my prejudices stem from the pre-SVA days when you could buy/build cheap and downright dangerous cars and put them on the road. At the time it seemed the cheaper end of the market allowed builders to short-cut and build such cars. Therefore I think RH got an unfair reputation simply because of the inability of its customers to build to a consistent level of quality.
Now in post-SVA Britain there's atleast a benchmark that all builders have to reach. Hopefully it's a stigma RH can shake off.
