What do you think of the remodelled vindicator?
Discussion
Passed comments on to John Butler of vindicator thought you might like to read his response.
Please thank your forum friends for their feedback. Please pass on the message that we intend to have a proper steering wheel in it asap and that as the cockpit is in the middle, rather than next to the bumpy bits, I expect it to be very comfortable (as long as there are seats in it of course!). I extend an invite to them to come and see that it "does what it says on the .... website".
I think the first comment below is a bit harsh, but each to their own, it would be boring if they all looked the same. Hopefully the third one will like the new rear being planned too. Can you point out to the forum that the developments shown so far are intended as work in progress, as stated in the green notices. The work on new rear wings, boot lid, front aero foils, airflow ducts behind front wheels, etc., is ongoing.
Re unfinished state - The bodywork was finally obtained on Friday afternoon after delays including the death of the mother of one of the three staff at the company producing it. My friend Len and myself then worked through the night to get the rolling shell on the stand at 9.59 for a 10.00 start! (sorry - no time for seats, wheel, screen, etc)

Personally speaking, I think they may have made a mistake showing what they did at the show. If it's a work in progress, there will be a lot of people, like me, who saw it as they walked past, thought "Eugh!" and didn't get close enough to see the "work in progress" signs.
Just my 2p.

um, I quite like it . I'm nopt overly keen on the square back, but if it comes with a locking boot then all the better.
the front looks a bit weird, but I like weird, I really think that the integrated rear wheels suits the shape nicely. With a windscreen (?) and a rear roll over hoops rather than a bar I reckon that could look great...
As for the sprint, from the image on vindicator's site it looks decent (although I think I spy a cobra rear end which I don't think would work on that sort of car). I do love the way the bonnets slope down and seemingly snort the white lines off the road (to quote a mag on a different car).

Just wanted to bounce this once to the top as John has asked me to be his ears on the forum.
They did a bit more work by the time it got to detling and I wondered what people thought now.
Also the Italian Design God has gone very quite re his designs on both the vindi and a FWD kit as have jay and ex biker.
Comments will be passed on to John totally unedited.
For a picture see Follow the link for the detling report and its right near the bottom of the list

I've been working on the Vindicator re-design, if I can get my renderings finished you will see them after Easter.
It was not an easy but I tried! It is going to be a little different but kept a few distinctive feautures of the Vindicator.
By the way, I'm still working on the FWD design, maybe someone is interested in taking over the design..........
I'll be back soon

I still quite like it, although I don't think those side splitters are doing it any favours. Personally, I think the side splitters would look better if they extend up over the front wheels. It might make it look mighty strange tho I grant.
Whats the specs underneath looking like?
That NG TC V8 looks gorgeous tho! (sorry for the thread hi-jack).

Docev1l, spoke to john at stoneleigh and passed on your coment re the wings extending over the wheel arches what he said was they want to keep the cycle wing style arches at the front but they were going to extend the wings and mirror the angled cut of the wheel arch on the end. In addition to this he said hhe didn't want to run up to the wheel arches as the front wing was going to be adjustable like an F1 car
Hmmmmm. When I spoke to the guy at Stafford, he told me about the aero improvements like the vent on the bonnet, the front wing etc.
However, he admitted to having designed these without any real knowledge of the aero theory behind them. I asked him if they were going to put any other similar things in to combat other simple problems with aero that I know of (e.g. high pressure in wheel arches) and lets just say that his responses didn't fill me with confidence.
My personal opinion is that this "adjustable wing" on the front of the car will just add more drag to a car that already suffers from poor aero (as do all se7ens, this isn't a particular attack on this one in particular).
A couple of months back there was an article in Autocar showing the aero work that Caterham have been doing with the 7. If I remember correctly, the front wing they added did work, but it was very tricky to set up. I seem to remember that they found the best setup to be re-profiled cycle wings to better handle the airflow over them (little "spoilers" built into the trailing edge) and a flat floor with a viscious looking rear diffuser and side skirts.
