Hello all
I'm off to tiger racing in the morning to have a look at the Avon they supply. There's some superb write ups and pics in the kitcar mags this month......so i've got to do it
So looking for advice as always
Has anyone built this kit?
And the pros and cons on zetec or bike power
Cheers

Well I've got a Tiger Supersix, can't praise Tiger enough, very helpful...
There was a very informative article on the "Avon" in one of the main kit car mags this month, (the name escapes me )...
BUT the best thing to do is sign up to the Yahoo Tiger message board and post the question on there, they have the answers to everything you need to know, and some more.....

Personally, I would go with a tuned Zetec, Chester Sportscars can take them up to 195bhp.
I've been lurking on the Tiger Yahoo group for a while now, looking to buy a SuperCat when I have a garage and enough cash.
Most of the time theres a good atmosphere on there and its very helpful, but theres been a bit of an episode about the quality of the bodywork on the Avon recently. I can't comment about the bodywork itself but its certainly raised feelings around there recently.

Que1 - Go for it mate. The Avon looks very good value in the budget market. I would also suggest the Zetec route (I would though wouldn't I?) Think about what you want the car to do. For road/occasional track use the 1.8 Zetec would be fine, the 2.0l is a little bit more and a little more poky, but in a sub 600kg car it won't make hardly any difference.
Good luck
Paul.
Good luck

You might want to have a look at www.locostbuilders.co.uk/
There are several Avon builders on there, none of which seem to be overly impressed by the quality of the kit, and especialy the fit of the fibreglass.

The rear bodywork on my Tiger Cat isn't 100% correct side for side, but with a bit of careful fitting it looks fine from behind, and no-one sees both sides at the same time anyway. IMHO the GRP quality on the cheaper Tiger kits isn't the best, but it's good for the money and it doesn't affect the driving experience, so why worry?
I've seen two avons up close and thought the grp was better than my Cat. If you wanted to get it just right I think painting it is the way forward.
Have fun...

I've got a Tiger too (Supercat) and Tiger have always been very helpful when I've had dealings with them. Can't comment on the Avon as I've not seen them, but I'd suggest getting to see a few yourself. Post a message on the Tiger Yahoo list may turn up a few builders in your area and see one 'in progress'.

I'm building a Super Six at the moment, and so far I've had only a few minor problems.
Regarding the bodywork - it fitted on OK (although with some swearing and generous application of the rubber mallet), and all the other bits have been OK too. The GRP isn't perfect, with rough edges and a few pits by one of the wheels, but doesn't seem as bad as many people have experienced with the Avon. Perhaps the Avon moulds are older and of poorer quality?
Overall, for the money, I'm very happy with it (so far...).
As far as other kits go, have a look at the MK Indy if you get the chance - a few disgruntled Avon builders have recently been to MK to see it, and have come away very impressed.

Que1, was it the Woolwich factory you went to our of curiosity? I'm keen on the Avon route for a budget kit car, and keep meaning to pop down there as its just down the road from me.
Thorney Toll, Wisbech was the one i went to. I had a good chat with one of the lads there.Must admit i was well impressed with the whole set up.They had about 6 cars to look at and they where building 2, so it was nice to have a good nose about, So it would be worth the trip.
Thay had the scary little Z100 sat the corner...can only be discribed as awsome!
I'm sure there will be a few problems with the kit, but it is a £3500 buget blaster so i'll be giving it a go
Thanks for the feedback in this guys

I went to Thorney and had a look at the Avon. It looked great and the guy told me you can't build a car like it as cheap - guaranteed. So I did some sums and he's probably right....but the Indy isn't much more if any and the one I looked at locally had a much better finish to the couple of Avons I've looked at. Plus I have heard some disgruntled Avon builders, so.............MK get the money!
