Hello
I've got a g27 Ginetta with a 5 spped sierra box in it.
The gear change requires quite alot of movement and as cabin space is small, I find I bang my elbow alot.
I've been looking at these quickshift gear levers which reduce gear lever movement, anyone fitted anything like this? what do you think?
Worth it?
Is it easy enough do do?
Cheers Ant

No question - fit one!

Not only do you get a shorter action, you also get a nice "clack" every time you shift. Mmmmm.

I fitted a kit version to my RS2000; it was a hassle and kept coming adrift. Put the complete lever assembly on my Sierra and it was a quick, easy job. You're only taking off the console trim, removing 3 bolts, chucking the old lever in the corner and fitting the new one.

I'm planning on doing this too. I'd imagine it's a simple enough job.. Can anyone recommend a good one to go for?

Thanks

I got mine from Burton but I haven't got a recent price. Rally Design offer one at £45.24 and PZ Motorsport / Minisport do one at £89.00

Forgot to add - the kit version is a lot cheaper (Rally Design quoting £13.52!) but the problem I touched on in the previous post is that with the kit version, the lever is held on with a grub screw. I found that this loosened over time and eventually I ran out of places to relocate the grub screw. Second time around I felt it was worth spending a little extra on the complete lever assembly - and it's a damn sight faster to fit!

But I guess if you had a welder, you could fill the hole for the grub screw with weld...

Thanks for your help guys, It's the rally design one I was looking at, why is it so cheap and the demon tweeks one expensive?

Uh, can I say that Demon Tweeks aren't known for their bargain prices?!

I haven't seen their version but the one I got from Burton several years ago was around £45-50 and I'd speculate it's the same quality as the Rally Design one - which I thought was fine at that time.

But you *should* get what you pay for - how about ordering both and returning the one you feel is less value for money according to the quality of each product?

Edited to add - it's very possible that the rose joint in the cheaper version is poorer quality or a different type of joint entirely...

tigerk, have you attempted the DIY quick shift in your cat?

i.e. the one by which you thump the lever through its base by a few mil (30 or 40 if memory serves me right)so the lever effectively pivots higher up the stick?

Did it to my six and fitted it with spacers underneath. Must admit I've never driven it without to know what it was like, but I know that without doing this I'd have had trouble getting 1st or 3rd without punching the dash each time! (cos I have the Westy remote gear linkage - which isn't as long as the tiger "linkage").

There's a doc about it on the Tiger forum or RHOCAR I believe.

traction, that sounds like a neat idea.. At present I've still got the Sierra gearstick mounted via a westfield remote, which is too tall anyway. I may as well try what you've suggested. If I mess it up then I've got a spare gearstick anyway..

Off to the garage then!

thanks
