Went up to the Tiger factory and spec'd my new track day car today

R6 with full cage.
Carbon wings etc.
2.0l Zetec 'Blacktop'
Webber Alpha with twin 45's.
Quaife modified Type 9 'box.
Ali bellhousing and lightened flywheel.
Huge TAR.OX front brakes with 6-pot callipers.
Cossie disk conversion at the rear.

Should provide some fun over the next 2-3 years! I've been given a 6-week lead time for the kit! So, hopefully I'll have it built by about May-June. I reckon 200-300 hours?

Just need to source some decent wheels now. I'm looking for some that are very light and nice & simple. Any ideas? They need to be 15"x7" and take a Ford stud.

I've just got to stay patient now.

My Zetec black top on TB's with an emerald ecu gives 182bhp.So good choice on engine. No hydraulic tappets to worry about etc.I saw a set of Supalite split rim alloys on a track spec westie in the old minilite type and they looked superb. They are billet made,so will make any size you want. The guy said they only cost £500 plus post for 4,which is very reasonable.Bend a rim and they can unbolt and replace just the rim or want to make them wider and they will machine up a spacer for £30 apparently.

How about some genuine magnesium Minilites? Think these were put back into producion some time ago, but afraid I can't provide any details. Sure a web search should turn something up though.

Compomotive CXR's with ACB10's, about the lightest single piece wheel and the lightest tyres, ideal for tracks.

Thanks for the advice guys

The Compomotive web site is only showing the CRX in 13". I'm looking to fit 15". Thanks anyhow.

Paul.

Paul, they do make 15", don't know why their web site doesn't list it. Have a chat to George Polly Motorsport www.polleymotorsport.co.uk

They have a full range of wheels and can supply almost any tyre.

Alternatively, I hate to say it, but Halfrauds have some reasonably good deals on cheapo alloys and tyres at the moment. Probably half the price of the CXR's with ACB10's but twice the weight.

Thanks again. I looked at the Polley site. They too are only listing the 13". I'm going up to Autosport next week, so I'll have a nosey round. Luckily, I'm in no hurry.

I got a price a couple of days ago for CXR's, £105 each in 7x15 with ACB10's coming in at about the same so over £800+vat. I've just seen:
www.teamdynamicsracing.com/pro-race/Pro-race1.htm

Not quite as light as the CXR's (not much in it really) but they come in black and look great.

I think you will find the MB engineering Magnesium split rims (as fitted to the Caterham R500) are significantly lighter than the Compomotive wheel. These can also be had in a variety of widths.

Sounds good.... and one hell of a spec, I have those huge 6pot Tar-rox calipers on my cossie and they are awsome and (as I recently found out) very light.

Not going to hijac pauls thread, so I'll keep it brief..... I one rolled the cossie due to brake failure (at croft) so fitted the huge 330mm tar-rox kit.

They are truelly awsome stoppers.
However they won't fit my new 355mm discs for my next car, so I recently bought some new Brembo items.... which are nearly twice the weight at 9.5lb inc pads.

Will give Paul huge stopping power whilst keeping the unspung weight low

Thanks for that Andy, your the first person I've heard from with any experience with them. Jim assured me they were good, but nice to hear someone else sing their praises.

Paul.

I got to have a chat with one of the guys from Compomotive today at Autosport. Turns out they do do a 15" CXR! (Cheers Busa) They are in the NEWS section of their web site apparently!

Weigh in at about 6.5kgs each and cost just under £100 each (before negotiating a discount for 8 )
