Best / worse build manual?

I suppose Ron Champion locost has arguably got the best build manual...not many come with a hynes manual.
Personally I found Tigers CAT manual poor, but if you ever quizzed them about it they said "its not an instruction manual...it's a guide book" or something similar. I only thought the Tiger manual poor untill I tried a sylva - about 5 sheets of A4 with 2 color photos on each, and a list of required donor componants!

Any one had any good / bad experiences? Why don't kitcar mags review the supplied construction manuals with a kit? The best value, best looking , best driving kit is no use if you never complete it.

An idea of mine is to do a small feature on where kit car manufacturers came up with the names of their companies....


For instance, Chris Smith came up with "Westfield" cos' it used to be his house name...


And reading "Kit car" this morning, I learnt that "Madgewick" was the name of a corner at Goodwood racing circuit

I'd always imagined "Westfield" were named after the corner at Brands.....

"GTM", in case anyone doesn't know, stands for Grand Touring Mini.....

That was possibly where he got the idea for his house name from then, because he used to be a racing driver in the sixties

In the case of “Pilgrim”. Bill Harling (my partner at the start) and I were trying to come up with a name. After several weeks we hadn’t come up with anything suitable.

One Monday I came to work humming a tune that I’d been singing at church the previous day. Bill joined in (nothing like a bit of music while you work). Suddenly the pair of us, in unison, reverted to the words TO BE A . . . . . PILGRIM.

From that day on we were known as Pilgrim .

Definately review of build manuals. Save us potential customers shelling out £10 or whatever to find out its half a dozen sheets of A4 with some handwritten notes on the bottom about modifications.

And what about these CD Rom build manuals how much use are they. I know Nigel Dean has a spotless garage however most of us have a garage that has got everything including the kitchen sink in it and I don't think the laptop would last too long balanced precariously on a chassis member before it got knocked off.
So what do you do? You print bits out and you are then left with a small rainforests worth of paper to tell you how to fit the floorpan or something
