Check this site out.

www.rapidproductions.com

A very nice looking car. A definate alternative to the 355 and the other Lambo reps about.

Price looks good and a decent donor.

Any thoughts?

Looks too good to be true. The web site appeared to be taking the p1ss a little though, which doesn't inspire the sort of quality image that they were looking to protray

You noticed this too.

Interesting to get other views. One noted on MadAbout is the name - Monkeylago

company history seems a bit short. If I had the sort of people they claim to have then I would crow about it they don't give any previous examples of work or any thing and I've not seen them b4 but that could just be me.

PF isn't involved in this is he:tongueincheek:

Oh no don't start that again

The contact number being a mobile phone sets alarm bells ringing. The prices look suspiciously cheap too. Oh, and a donor car is unlikely to be cheap either if you're looking at the likes of an XJ8

Agree with the general feeling here......but does seem too good to be true.....I suspect the reality is that it is miles off completion, but trying to drum up interest in advance.....erm....bit like mine really I guess..

They are promising January delivery, so it can't be that far off completion.

Still, I can't find any reference to SVA approval on the site either. No photos of the finished article. In fact, the whole thing has to be someone having a larff.

Do you really believe there will be January deliveries?...it's possible if the website is about 6 months out of date..trying not to be critical here, just realistic...hope it is totally for real and succesful..

Who is reveals a David Arland in Oxon. Any ideas?

Could be true, might be an imported kit. There are quite a few f1 teams in the area and there were some redundancies in the industry. My wifes cousin was made redundant at Jrdan and walked straight into a job in Renaut f1 so the timing might be right for an ex f1 person.

2500 for a lightly damaged jag though is a joke. Add 10 grand to the front of that.

Still I like the idea of it tho'

Plus where does the audi gear box fit in?

I agree with the general consensus, there do appear to be a few "issues". Mobile number, yahoo email address, (badly) home made website, etc.

But as they're just down the road I'll look at taking a look at the demonstrator in the New Year (site says 1st of Jan... ).

As for the Audi 'box, I'd guess it's because the donor Jag had an auto which wouldn't exactly fit the character of a Lambo rep, would it?

Having done a bit more ratching around, the only reference I can find to Rapid Productions on the web is as part of the list of exhibitors at the Exeter car show on the TKC preview. Did anyone that attended see anything?

Does seem plausible given that it appeared on TKC today.

See www.totalkitcar.com/news.shtml#486

No affiliation blah, blah, blah.

Well, I guess that answers my question about Exeter!

I wonder what Lamborghini will think about the use of what appears to be a picture of a real Murcielago on the Monkeylaga site and next to this article... It's either that, or not only have they built a replica Lambo, they've built a replica Italian building to photograph it in front of.

Nice (but small) pictures of the chassis and body though. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, at least until proved otherwise. And someone else parts with some hard-earned

If anyone wants to look on MadAbout, you'll see a few comments from the manufacturer.

Add to this the comments on Totalkitcar and I think you'll find it's a pretty legit car.

As I posted before, the report in TKC etc. do seem to suggest it's pukka BUT what I struggle to understand is why this guy is making such a mess of the promotion of his product.

If he's ex-F1 he must know how important image is.

So no 'home address', only a mobile phone number, poorly designed website and the choice of a moniker which whilst slightly amusing hardly inspires confidence in the product all go to create this level suspicion from an bunch of knowledgeable and supportive kit car enthusiats.

As for telling the average man in the street, 'Oh yes, it's actually a Monkeylago....'

IMO it's a name that will only embarass the builder. At least Parallel Designs chose a reasonable name for their Lambo replica.

Ah well. BTW is the photo of the finished car actually his demonstrator or leveraged from a real Murcielago?

And it just gets better, went back to check out the site again and the guy has exceeded his bandwidth for this month. He gets all the right publicity and nobody can see what he's offering. Or is it all a fake as was earlier suggested.

I wish him well, because it looks a great product and price, but he's obviously an engineer and no salesman.

Cheers

Hmm, using freebie web hosting with monthly bandwidth limits isn't an overly professional way to promote your business.

Good question - the S4 is 4 wheel drive is it not?

I suppose that 'cos as you say the RS4 is 4WD, then it's gearbox can can effectively be used as a transaxle in a mid engined application, using the outputs that would normally drive the front wheels in that car. And as RS4's start at 380bhp (IIRC) straight out of the box and can be tuned massively from there, it must be strong.

I think the same 'box may also be used like this in the Farboud GT supercar currently in development.
