Anyone know the ratios in a 4 speed RS2000 box?
Discussion
Hello fellow PHers, I've just purchased a 4 speed RS 2000 box to replace the one I bust a few months back. It's going on to a 1700 crossflow but I really need to know what the ratios are so I can work out max speed & see how much longer acceleration is likely to take. I suspect the worst, as previously it had a 1300 crossflow box in it, and veritably flew up to 80 but redlined at 100... any advice chaps?

Minimax,
Don’t know the lower gear ratios but 4th is always 1:1.
So top speed will be the same as it was.
Thinking about it. The lower ratios won’t effect overall acceleration either, ‘cos you’ll just change gears at different times (to take into account the different ratios).
What you really needed was a Type 9 Sierra 5 speed because its top gear ratio is 1 : 1.2. In practice that would mean that the red line would be reached at 120 mph (not 100mph).

Hi Tom
It depends on what you are going to use it for. I have a spreadsheet showing speeds through the gears for Ford boxes using a variety of tyre sizes and diffs. If you want a copy email me with your email address. I have tried to send it via you email contact on this site but it won't copy
Regards Ian
