WK? classified
Discussion
I don't know if everyone (that get's it anyway) has seen this months issue of WK?
I was amazed by Mr Filby's comments about classified advertising.
He has singled out 4 pictures from private advertisers and basically slagged them off, commenting on how bad each individual photo is.
I'm not saying the photos are great. The points he picks up on are right, but if someone is paying good money to advertise with you, do you tell them their advert is s**t!
I can just imagine him telling a manufacturer that their ad is too red or a buggy manufacturer that if they want to sell their car, they'll have to use photos showing it off road.
Maybe it's just me, but I would be very offended if one of those adverts was mine.

I saw that bit too. If one of them was my car, Id be quite pleased that he's drawn attention to it. Just because the photos crap doesn't mean the car is! Isn't that the point he was making?
I can see your point (& yes it's an advantage to have attention drawn to it), but he's still saying 'you can't take a photo & your advert is s**t!'
If he wanted to draw attention to the poor quality of ads, he could have been a little more generic and given guidance on how to improve pics and wording to make it more attractive to readers.

He's not that chilled. Has anyone seen the new mock Python ad in the latest Kit Car? Thought that was going to stop? Still, I suppose he needed to fill up all those extra pages some how.
Now come on! That is funny
It looks real until you read it. He's even left the address and number on it. And I do believe it is only the truth, in that no-one has built one yet.
We only know that at least one kit has been sold.
I'd say still chilled!

I never said that I was going to stop doing that part of my job that entails the exposure of shams and scams.
Neither did I say that I was going to give up proclaiming the truth concerning Kit Car’s massive lead in respect to the numbers being sold.
What I did agree to do was to stop the personal insults which many thought made me look as bad as Fib’s.
I agreed to keep to the facts, and present them in Cook report style.
So that’s what I think the Python ad on page 201 and the ‘Self praise is. . .’ advertisement on page 177 do.
In respect to the Python, there’s a guy (I think he's the one and only customer of monty the Python) who honestly believes that the kit he recently purchased from or through Fib’s was a safe gamble because in his words ‘it’s hardly a new design – is it?’.
But it is a new design! Completely, utterly and patently so–the implied connection with the original Python is THE major part of confidence trick which is exposed by my advertisement. Along with the mixing of references to the quality of the original as if they were applicable to the as yet untried new Python.
Den to his readers, to fraudsters.

It would be even funnier if RV Dynamics sold a car or two from the ad in Kit Car. Like you said, it looks like a genuine ad until you read it. I can imagine someone phoning for a brochure without reading the blurb!
I agree ! ! !

It would be funny, but only if they had a brochure to send. Why don’t you both ‘phone and ask for one, saying you saw their ad in Kit Car . You’d have an entertaining time.

I've phoned them A brochure is being mailed to me 1st class. Can't wait... Might even buy one
Lots of folk would be interested to see how it turns out.
Did Fib’s tell you that he’d sold 3?
BTW, you’re not the only person to ‘phone for a brochure today. Fib’s is going to be stuffing a lot of envelopes if all the reports I’ve heard are correct. He’ll be thinking that I’ve done him a real favour
He’ll be when he reads this thread. Hello Peter, we know you’re out there.
Den
Well, having just arrived back from Holiday yesterday, I picked up my December issue of "Kit car" from my local WH Smiths, (btw Den, I bought the last copy on the shelf ) and pissed myself laughing when I saw the spoof Monty Python ad in the back...
At this rate, if "Kit car" carries on like this, I will be able to cancel my subscription to The "Beano" and The "Dandy"....
