Den,

Just out of curiosity, how much does it cost to put a full page/half page/quarter page ad in your mag?

I suppose it would be a bit cheaper if you booked six months running, or something like that, also I would imagine you could command a slightly higher rate than Fibs cos' your circulation is superior...

Hence why you media tycoons slug it out to increase circulation.

btw, Is your house called "Xanadu" like in "Citizen Kane"

Just wondering....

The rate card says £600 a page (and pro-rata on smaller sizes).

Nobody pays that much though

Yes, we give better prices for series bookings.

It’s only been in the last few months that people have believed that Kit Car is significantly in front.
Fib’s was blatantly accusing me and Tom of lying about circulation figures.

It went like this.
Fib’s “You don’t believe those liars when they say we only sell 7,000 do you?”
Customer “Well how many do you sell?”
Fib’s “We actually sell over 10,000”
Customer “How many do they sell?”
Fib’s “They overstate their sales by the same amount as they understate ours. They’re not selling anything like 14,000 but closer to 11,000”
Customer “So Which Kit? sells 10,000 and Kit Car 11,000”
Fib’s “No! Which Kit? sells more than 10,000 and Kit Car sells less than 11,000, there’s hardly anything in it. Anyway, haven’t you heard that Which Kit? is racing ahead in 2003?”

It’s against this background that I called him Pinocchio Fibly (and why). Interesting that he hasn’t complained isn’t it?

My house is called ‘Mariners’. I’m all at sea.

Wacky,
I was in my local WH Smiths this w/e

There was no Which Kit?

So I asked one of the assistants where it was and was told that the manager had recently done a ‘weeding’ exercise and dumped a few ‘inefficient’ titles.

It is apparent, to me at least, that the message is getting across.

Fewer classifieds, fewer trade adverts, fewer pages and fewer shop spaces. All speak of a collapse in demand. With sales down to 6,400 it must be a struggle. Remember that CCC threw in the towel with sales at 9,000.

So it seems that my policy has worked. Perhaps I can now relax and allow natural forces to take their course.

A bit of positive leadership should see the widespread acceptance of Kit Car’s pole position, and with it, better advertising rates.

I think that’s what you said all along. Don't say "I told you so" if we are to stay friends.

Really ? I hadn't heard that. Maybe this explains why I haven't been able to find November's issue anywhere

BTW - my local WHS does still carry WK? as does the Spar across the road.

... and yes, I have parted with my £3.50 for November's

Just out of interest, do those shops also have Kit Car? Also do you Kit Car as well?

In my area there are some very strange anomalies. I buy my monthly dose of Which Kit? from a garage. I kid you not, but they used to take 3 copies every month. Early this year the quantity was increased to 5. For the past three issues they’ve held 8. What’s really strange is that they usually only sell the copy I buy and occasionally one other. As I said in another thread, the sales efficiency is terrible, as has been confirmed by many here who say there’s always plenty of Which Kit? on the shelves at the end of each month.

Such a sad situation.

Sad for who?

I'd say you get pleasure out of hearing that!

For my poor ole mate, Peter of course.

It’s not pleasure I derive – it’s utter jubilation !!!!

I don't think I've seen KC in either of these shops.

I buy KC only very occasionally (say twice a year) but buy WK? most months.

Slight correction, the shop I mentioned earlier in the thread isn't a Spar, it's actually a McColl's.

This is not a confrontational question, but……..

Is there any particular reason for your purchasing and hence reading preference?

No problem - I can do confrontational

To be frank, it's mostly down to availability but I do find the; layout, style and content of WK? suit me better.

I must admit that prolly more than 60% of the mag remains unread when it goes in the bin. The main driver for purchase is the classifieds.

I do hope this thread isn't going to degenerate into either a massage session or a pissing contest.

Den , sorry to say it but Which Kit gives a more professional air , its probably only the more frequent use of colour - and the fact it doesn't have those awful bitmapped adds . But on reading the Which Kit seems more 'friendly' in its style . But I am being persuaded that the technical content is better in Kit Car.

Interesting that, since Kit Car has quadruple the quantity of classifieds.

As I said, I’m not up for confrontation. Been there and got the bruises.

Was simply curious.

Hang on a sec....

Before this does degenerate into another magazine slanging match, Den asked for PH'ers input on the quality and content of Kit Car.

Before starting the old "Mine's better than yours" battle again, you've got to let the ideas and inspiration that Den may have taken from the PH feedback filter through into the publication of the magazine.

With deadlines etc, it was never going to happen overnight.

Dave,
Aren’t you concerned about the integrity issues too?

Misrepresented reader’s letters?

Advertising of non-existent products?

Biased editorial to favour particular products whilst others are left out altogether?
