Does anyone know where to get hold of new "crate" Rover K series engines? And if they do a crated KV6?

I've no idea if it's really worthwhile, but I'm thinking about the possibility of building a GTM Libra V6 to use as a daily driver and for no good reason was just wondering how much more a new crated V6 would cost over and above a salvaged one.

The other alternative might be to go for the new 2.0 4-cyl K which would give more power, but I'm not sure if it would be as well suited as the KV6 given the latters higher capacity and therefore, I assume, torque.

Cheers all.

I'd read the thread on the k-series engine on the general lotus forum, before deciding if you wanted a k-series engined car. I've had 2 and i know i don't want another. Plus see last weeks bbc watchdog

PTP in Hinckley used to supply K-series engines in various states of tune as well as standard.

They have undergone a lot of changes recently tho so I don't know whther they can still supply.

I used a new K series when building my Libra - I just fancied the idea of building a 'new' car with a new engine and it made it easier to get a current registration plate.

Give Martin a call at Reyland Motors.

Tel. 0121 753 3489

I got my VVC160/PG1 brand new from him and I am pretty sure he has also supplied new KV6's to other Libra builders. Price/service was excellent - though you may have to wait a while for him to get hold of one.

Not wishing to appear vulgar Chris but would you care to give us a rough idea of price?

No probs! but this was over 18 months ago so bear in mind this could have been a one off!

£2200 for a brand new Trophy 160 VVC with PG1 box and all ancilliaries. The MEMS3 ECU was supplied used. A pair of brand new MGF driveshafts were another £250.
No idea what a new MG 'Z' KV6 would be worth ATM - probably quite a bit more..

Thanks for all the info guys, I shall have a good look into it all.

If anyone's interested, the company that actually builds the engines is called Powertrain ltd. (www.powertrainltd.com/).

It also seems that QED are reasonably well known for their performance mods: www.qednet.demon.co.uk/.
