I'm looking to buy a Westfield (or similar) primarily to use on track days (although it must be road legal). I also want to do some sprints and climbs but where do I find out what's on?

With a Westy, I can do some with the WSCC but what if I want to buy something else? I've looked at 750MC but it looks as though I'd be tied into a 1300 x-flow (correct me if I'm wrong). I'm not too bothered about doing an entire season, just a few races in the local (north west) area.

Cheers

A Westy is the way to go

If you do get something else (can't think why you'd want to do that ) then you'd be looking at your local club and see if they organise sprints and h/climbs.

Good luck

I think I'm pretty settled on the Westy (I have joined the WSCC after all) but I just want to make sure I'm aware of all the options.

BTW, how's the car coming along?

Slowly, waiting for my new radiator to be delivered, then I can get about fitting that and a faster running fan to sort the water/cooling problems.

Then need to sort out reventing the oil system.

All pretty straightforward stuff, I've just not got round to doing it.

Can't wait to get out on track though when it's all done

There was a Polo one for sale on eBay recently - about £35 iirc.

btw - what have you done to disguise the holes left by removing the swept wings and what power are you getting from your 1600 xflow?

To be honest you can't don't really notice the holes left by the swept wings from a distance.

I put a PistonHeads MUVVA Decal on each side which covered up a couple of holes and I used one of the holes for the side repeaters.

Apart from that I've done nothing to disguise them.

The MSA (Motorsports Association, who you'll need to get a licence from) will be able to put you in touch with a suitable local club. No idea what's organised up north but there will probably be a few local championships, often shared between a few clubs.

Andy, you could also try www.ukmotorsport.com/uk_speed.html
Breadline Racing used to have a Dutton that he hillclimbed/sprinted, it could be worth asking him for more info on getting started.

It's something I'd like to get into as Prescott, Castle Combe & Gurston Down are all so close to me, so who knows might see you about!
